What does this back-of-the-bus treatment remind you of?
“Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and other black lawmakers would only be able to speak after a panel of outside witnesses testifies.”
Grassley to CBC: “Move to the back of the hearing, please!”
What many of us have been saying for 40 years and what Trump’s support from Evangelical voters proves is that “values” in front of the word “voters” has always been code for race.
Or as Fox would call it “Playing the race card from the back of the hearing room”
Hey, that’s compromise for you!(/s) If Sessions had it his way, there’d be no black lawmakers at all.
I almost want to weep just thinking how the above analogy bookends the life of John Lewis.
They’re just lucky they don’t have to sit in a separate section of the committee room.
Ah, now we know what is meant by their use of: “returning to the good days”. They mean the days before 1964-65.
As bad as this looks and is, I would posit that speaking last has an advantage. One that Grassley created the optics, two it goes against norms, and third Rep. Lewis is powerful speaker and I’d rather his words were the last words heard.
This table is outside witnesses only.
Grassley, like McConnell and Ryan is simply carrying Trump’s water these days. Gee, and to think before he won, they couldn’t stand him. How quickly things change.
Grassley said that Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and other black lawmakers would only be able to speak after a panel of outside witnesses testifies at the hearing, per Politico.
…and the lawmakers will even have their own rent-a-can and temporary water fountain (hose) outside in the cold while they wait to testify. Make America Separate and Unequal Again. “What have you got to lose?”… The answer to Trump’s rhetorical question becomes clear.
Making America Great Again?
Same with the drinking fountain, I hear.
Shouldn’t that be 1865?
I would agree except the GOP plan is probably to vote quickly out of committee before what the black lawmakers say can enjoy its full news cycle.
Expect nothing but pettiness and hate from the GOP.
At least since 1929.
Yes I can see your point but if they go this route then the optics of not allowing a Lewis or other members of CBC to speak last and for a shortened time also puts out into the news cycle that Republicans can’t time manage, dismiss the importance of A/A law makers speaking on a nominee’s past racist remarks, and puts the lily whites in poor light.
They can’t have those uppity black folk hurting Mr. Sessions’ precious fee-fees. God, these guys are so gutless
