Discussion: Dem's Midterm Haul Climbs To 31 House Seats As Handel Concedes In Georgia

My gut feeling is many of these will go towards the Democrat, especially provisional ballots. Those of us in CA 49 are simply overjoyed we now have Mike Levin representing us rather than that right wing toady Issa. Having an environmental law background Levin is a perfect fit for our eco conscious coastal district. Couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Wow! I live in GA-6 and couldn’t be more excited about this. This is a huge pickup for the Dems considering this was Tom Price’s seat and Handel pretty easily beat Jon Ossoff last year. I honestly thought it was a permanent Republican seat. Thrilled to be part of the Women’s Wave!

Yup, WA-8 is now blue for the first time. Rossi conceded to Schrier las night. With just over 70% counted, she held on at 53% to his 47. Yay!

Let’s understand California and those four close House races. Do not be thinking that there are a few votes left to be counted here and there. About 30-40% of the vote has not yet been counted, and typically the later-arriving absentees are more Democratic than the earlier-counted votes, as are the provisional votes.

Look at CA-10, where Josh Harder trails incumbent R Jeff Denham by ~1300 votes. That district has most of Stanislaus County and a bit of San Joaquin County. In Stanislaus County, ~80,000 votes remain to be counted. I don’t know how many votes are left in San Joaquin, but however many there are, they’re going to be good for Harder because he won the already-counted votes there. This district looks like it will be a Dem pick-up.

Man, the fact that it’s that hag Handel losing just makes it so much sweeter.

538 is predicting Dems will end up at plus 37. This would be a good haul under any circumstances but considering the gerrymandering that the repubs did this is a great result. 538 is also predicting the senate will end up at a plus 2 for rebubs. They must think either AZ or FLA will end up in the dems column.

I’m so happy we were finally able to Flip The 8th! After helping out on two previous attempts by Darcy Burner, I guess the third time was the charm. Having Rossi as an opponent may have helped just a little.

I’m happy for you.

We’re winning a lot of the close ones. Bodes well for AZ-SEN (fingers crossed). We look to be at net +33 at the moment if you put the undeclared lean blue seats in our column. Looking at the races where counting is still going on, I think there are 8 where the margins are very tight, and we’ll probably pick up a few more (CA-10, ME-02) are lean blue. In addition, I think CA-39, CA-45 will lean blue per 538. GA-7 and TX-23 are both under 1000 votes so they could flip too. We have an outside shot at NY-27 (only 1.1% behind). In a best case scenario we’d get up to 40, but likely we’ll finish at net +35 to +37.

That’s a little lower than the 50 on I predicted Monday, but in the general range that I had thought (35-65 seats). I think had Amy McGrath won her KY race, we would’ve been on track hit 50. We underperformed in PA by about 2 seats (candidate quality issues in PA-01 hurt us). Dana Balter in NY 24 was a bad candidate. Looks like we fell short in WA-03, Just missed in IL-12, MI-6, NC-2, and losing MN-08 (giving the GOP a flip). Gerrymandering hurt us in FL, NC, OH, WI, MI. We came tantalizingly close in a few more TX seats. 50 was possible and that helps us set up the map and plan of attack for 2020.

“Conversely, Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) has a tiny lead in his race, with some votes still outstanding.”

GA-7. Woodall’s opponent is Carolyn Bordeaux, who ran a superb, issues-oriented campaign. I’m still holding out hope for her chances in this election.

Key to all this is also that D’s are fighting to the end for every last vote. So many of the early margins we’re seeing this week would have been graciously conceded back in “normal times”. These are not normal times, there can be no more “live to fight another day” when you’re up against a nihilistic death cult that does politics as total war. I’m heartened to see us Dems finally getting that. Looks like Andrew Gillum just got it, too.

Word. And I have been saying that since the night he won.

This is such great news. A woman who became an activist because her son was murdered by a racist is elected to the seat of a horrible woman who tried to cut off funds to Planned Parenthood and otherwise support the party of white people. This gives me hope.

Great news. Rossi has been a carbuncle on the state for years. Kudos from a next door neighbor who also helped keep the Blue Wall.

It’s wonderful. It was wonderful to watch Kim Davis go down in flames, too. She richly deserved that.

Really sad about WA 03. But a lot of suburbia still goes R. Carolyn Long is a great candidate. I hope she tries again in two years.

We’re heartbroken here in KY about Amy, we needed some good news with this Bevin nightmare. Louisville came out great but the state…ugh…

So happy that cutie, Joe Cunningham, won down in S. Carolina though! He was actually born and raised in Kuttawa, KY on beautiful lake Barkley. That was a great pick up seat and snub to trump!
