Grassley DOES NOT want the FBI involved in his caper to rush the process. The FBI didn’t know about the accuser or her story until now. Republiscums are desperate to not allow a deep, thorough and FBI lead investigation. At all costs, they will advise the WH to not allow the FBI to do anything more.
Dr. Ford should insist that she will only speak in a public forum.
Yep. Grassley thinks he can get away with some form of intimidation in this manner by members of his party and out of public view. I’m almost positive that’s the way his little cornfed brain works.
Or basically that they let a little time pass (half a day?), have their aides write anything up as notes and announce:

I think the Pukes don’t want to take a hit for the way they question her in front of the public because there’s no way they come out of this looking like they give a shit if they still all move ahead to confirm. Once she gives her testimony, its boils down to credibility. They’re already choosing to ignore Kavanaugh’s missing explanations of his money troubles, and the lies he’s already told regarding his beliefs about Roe and other matters. He’s already lied under oath and they don’t seem to care one whit about any of that. This phone call thingy Grassley wants is about avoiding bad PR, which they’re about to get in spades. They can’t attack a victim without looking like douchebags, and they can’t pretend there’s nothing to see here because some in their party want this woman to get her appear first before anything else happens.
The Call didn’t happen yet did it? I can’t tell from the reporting, just that Dems wouldn’t participate. I also don’t know that I have heard Mrs. Ford saying it isn’t going to happen, in fact the prelims heard out of Grassley is sounding like she agreed to be on the call. I sure hope not.
Yep…they’re going to go straight to “how drunk were YOU, Dr. Ford” and “what were YOU wearing, Dr. Ford?” followed by “this is just a bunch of he-said-she-said from so long ago that none of it is credible.”
In fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they try to go for the “woman scorned” defense and have some story about Kavanaugh rejecting her back then so she’s getting him back now.
I don’t think they will go to a public, under oath format. I think they may withdraw rather than do that. The noises I seem to be hearing from all the R senators actually sounds like some of them are asking for decency and a respectful hearing. So of course, that cannot be what they are planning at all. That is for cover, IMHO. If they find they cannot ramrod this thru, they will withdraw rather than let this circus go where it will inevitably go.
Ford should refuse to any pre-interviews by Grassley or any GOP members and staff. This is becoming the new normal for GOP Committees. Look at all the interviews conducted by the GOP House Intelligence Staff without notice to or participation of the Democratic Members. Ford and the Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary should say no and refuse to participate in a call totally designed to give the GOP fodder for the actual hearing. Regular order my ass.

For fucks sake they all supported for president a man who bragged about sexually assaulting women! Did any Democrat actually, honestly believe that these allegations would give rise to serious reflection and change the outcome? I’m shocked they’re doing this much.
