Discussion: Democrats Take Cautious Victory Lap After Rolling Trump On Short-Term Debt Deal

At some point in the past 90 days, I absolutely guarantee you that Trump thought, how ever briefly, that shutting down the government would get rid of Mueller. Ascribing any kind of acumen or skill to the man or his advisors is, always, wrong. He has no idea what he is doing or why.

Better to work these things out during the matinees.

The problem with getting this deal done is that it affords the Senate more opportunities to do mischief to Obamacare.

Edit to add response to mm:

We should not be afraid of winning for fear of losing! Winning begets winning! We need to lead the charge all the way to the goal line.

Exactly. McConnell agreeing to this means that he has bigger fish to fry.

Remind me of that after the mid-term elections.

Sure.

You must not have heard the story I’ve told here about midterms too many times to count. In 2006, I went to sleep in a Republican Dallas, Co, Texas the night of the midterms. I woke up in a totally Democratic County. We threw out 49 Republicans and replaced them with Democrats in one night.

It can be done. It can happen. I’ve lived it.

I’ll believe that this is a ā€œvictoryā€ when a bill gets to his desk and he signs it, not a minute before. This ā€œdealā€ still has to get past both houses of Congress, and given the large number of crazy people who work there, I’m pessimistic about it actually happening. As others have pointed out, Trump is hardly a reliable negotiating partner. While it’s good for some headlines today, let’s see what happens tomorrow. In the immortal words of Winston Wolf, ā€œWell, let’s not start sucking each others’ dicks quite yet.ā€

We need to repeat that process.

About 538 more times. In November 2018.

I doubt it will make a difference, FOX and the Teanutz will make it very, very clear to him.

Yep. Or at least as close to that as we can and we should be able to.

We won all the special elections but two and we won a lot of them in districts that went for Trump. It didn’t take those voters long before they regretted their choice in November, apparently.

The majority of this country doesn’t just sorta not care for this president, the majority of America hates him and wants to see him gone., It better be a wave election. If it’s not we need to examine every aspect of the voting to see if it was fucked with.

I agree. There will always be those so afraid of what the RW press will say that they can not accept a win when we get one, let alone give the Dems credit where is is due.

I’m less concerned about them not caring about this president, than I am concerned about them caring about his platform.

There’s a lot of vitriol out there. Do the Democrats have the candidates and platform to neutralize that vitriol? Can the GOP make inroads by simply putting up other, worse, true alt-right candidates that will appeal more to this so-called populism that has infected this country? The GOP is already talking about primarying those that won’t toe the party line. So what does that mean for our opposition next year?

I see a run on tiki torches at Pier One…
