Discussion: Democrats Stage Sit-In On House Floor Calling For Gun Control Votes

What a forceful and dynamic action!

House recesses and you’re left on the floor. Brilliant!

May do nothing, but at least it will bring more attention to the voters that Repubs ain’t doing jack about what a large majority of Americans want. Now.

Maybe the Dems could ask the Reps as a starting point how many civilians have to die before something is done? These victims of mass shootings, and especially those that died by semi automatics are the ones paying to the 2A’s right to own guns.

So what? The House has to reconvene sometime. Nothing’s stopping them from doing it again.

What dynamic action would you have them do? Come to that, what dynamic action have you taken?

Once again the Honorable John Lewis leads the way. I hope no one on the other side of the aisle spits on him. He is my hero.

Dems: “Where is our soul? Where is our moral leadership? Where is our courage?”

GOP: “Where is our NRA check? Where is our tax cut? Where is our photo-op?”

Since I don’t favor gun control, but instead favor people control, I believe they are wasting their time in a failure driven kabuki theater performance.

What rule(s) is it that these House members are not following? That they have to sit in their chairs? After all, they are on the House floor–literally–so, what rule(s) are they not following?

What are your proposals for “people control”?

I wish they would take a page out of the GOP playbook and ask them why they support arming terrorists, or why they hate Americans so much that they will deny the ‘will of the people’ (one of their favorite lines) and side with the enemy. Or something. Of course, then they would simply say that the Dems are ‘politicizing’ shootings and the David Gergens of the world will contend that the Repubs ‘have a point.’

This has turned into an actual sit-in:

Ted Poe!! Well, I’ll be damned! Remember him bitching that the House shouldn’t approve Obamacare because the bill was too long? Remember that? He read this precious little poem about the Old Testament and how it only came on two pages while Obamacare had thousands of pages of regulations? He started off thusly:

POE: It came on two pages…

STEWART: Oh a riddle! I luvvvvvvv these! ‘It came on two pages’…what is…Mark Foley?

Thank you Democrats. This is a win/win for them and a lose/lose for Republicans. Every member is up for reelection. Brilliant.

Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA52) is using Periscope to live stream video.

Here is some of Rep. Duckworth’s speech:

C-SPAN can’t broadcast this (the Republicans control the cameras) so social media is the only way this stuff is getting out.

I guess Ryan and the GOP don’t want to be embarrassed the same way the Senate was. Chris Murphy and company showed that there is resolve to do something. I guess there are plenty in the House and Senate that are tired of Moment of Silence, followed by “too soon to talk about this”, and finally business as usual.
