I’m a congenital pessimist but I’ve been consistently bullish on the Blue Wave, and I still rate Blue stock as a Buy. Like a team whose locker-room woes evaporate once they start winning, Democratic unity should only strengthen as we keep chalking up victories. Democrats are raring to vote, and even raring to run. There won’t be a let up, either, not least because the GOP’s existential attack on our society and democracy is ongoing. We will fight on, tooth and claw, through 2018 and beyond.

Good point, but there is small chance that Trump will be removed before then.
Much more to come from Mueller over many months, and the Rs ain’t gonna do squat.
The only way the Dotard goes down before the midterms is that he decides he has had enough of “winning” and quits, or one of his Big Macs does him in (this last is probably the most likely way for an early end to Trump’s reign of error).
There is blood in the water, but Democrats need to be prepared to take advantage.
The Obama economy can’t continue much longer. At some point it is going to slow. That is when the Republicans really suck wind.

While I would love to see today’s GOP in the rearview mirror, I don’t want a Democratic stranglehold either, as that just creates a laziness and a strong potential for abuse. I want dynamic, intelligent, compassionate people on both sides. That kind of competition just creates even better and better ideas. To me, that’s the real “free market” (of ideas!).

Reminds me of the Simpson’s bit from long ago when Bart drifts in a balloon (I think) through the R and D political conventions. The R slogan was “We’re just plain evil!” and the D slogan was “We hate ourselves!”.
Stop worrying about the “harm” Democratic dominance might do. We have a half century of R damage to undo.

Either party is only as good as the people at the grassroots. Democrats do a much better job recruiting dynamic, intelligent and, especially, compassionate people. Democrats need to do more of that and Republicans need to develop some compassion.

One Year is an eternity in politics.
I have completely given up on prognostication except as intellectual exercise.
We can not predict the future and should never act as though we can.

Oh, I’m not fretting – at all. I was just expressing what our system should strive to be.
For now, though, we need a severe turn left to right the ship of state. And that turn needs to be a long arch that lasts quite awhile.

I don’t think it is just Trump. It’s knowing what republicans stand for that is firing up the voters. People are starting to get that repealing Obamacare and cutting taxes will benefit the rich, not the rest of us.

Which is exactly why a moderate Democrat, who names Republicans to his/her cabinet, and begins negotiations from the center instead of the left won’t cut it anymore. That would eliminate some of the bigger names considering throwing their hat in the ring right now.

Unfortunately the Rs have destroyed their party as a functioning entity entirely on their own.
There is nothing the Ds can do about that. Nothing.
Genuine conservatives are going to have to figure out how to reconstruct a party that respects reality and is not owned by billionaires.
Until they succeed, the Ds are going to need to run things for the good of the nation, and (given U.S. dominance) the world.
