“Open” might be a better word than “unsellted”
This week Republicans targeted Pelosi’s comment that $1,000 bonuses resulting from the GOP tax bill are “crumbs.”
From Business Insider:
They found that across all Fortune 500 companies, the average CEO pay was $13.8 million a year, while the average median worker pay was about $77,800
OK… I can play too… the average joe got 1000… So the average CEO got 204,000. 1000 vs 204,000 is crumbs.
Democrats; DO NOT RETREAT!
It is time for our Grants to step forward and replace all our McClellans.
No time for timid.
Nothing wrong with GOING on a “retreat”, but maybe find a better label for it?
Luntz is laughing at you.
The Dem agenda is the Dem agenda but now they have the big orangish, wispy-headed elephant in the room to consider.
Of course, rallying against the Trumpp wrecking ball administration is part of the deal, how could it be avoided?
So we are at, moving forward with the basics of liberalism and progressive policies and fighting against losing everything that’s been gained, ever. Both ends have to be pursued with a constant awareness of The Dunce that does damage just for the fun of it.
I’ll take the Dems agenda and what it will grow to be after the midterms vs. the obviously despised Republican agenda any day of the week and Sunday.
Bull-fucking-shit. The Democratic Party couldn’t piss with their pants on fire.
I was going to write something snarky about this story, but in fact the Democrats have a real problem getting a word in edgewise in a media world dominated by Trump. The problem might be that we look to our congressional delegation for message leadership, when it really ought to be coming from someone or someones outside Washington. I don’t know who that might be but I see Joe Biden has been picking up a microphone lately, Eric Holder and Barack Obama have been working on redistricting. Where are the young leaders of the future Democratic party.
By the way my crazy aunt has been convinced by the Russian bots that whisper to her every morning that Barack Obama is personally leading the resistance. I haven’t seen much of that, but maybe I am missing something.
I’d start with a permanent continuing resolution so there are no more shutdowns or last minute manufactured crises.
Donald also had a marathon reading the other day…2 hours alone with the"memo"!
That “significant wing of the party [that] continues to push for sharpened focus on a more populist economic message.” was purged from the DNC. Instead of a reconciliation with the Sanders wing of the party, Sanders supporters were purged, a more unified party, maybe, but a smaller party.
What are Democrats doing to win Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania? In Pennsylvania, they did manage to get a redistricting plan thrown out, but on the matter of issues that will get voters to turn out for Democrats where they are needed in 2020, I haven’t heard a thing. Building support takes time, by the 2020 election season it will be too late.
Simple advice for the Dems: Forget Russia and listen to Bernie.
Dems have learned nothing from the 2016 fanny-tanning
- HRC tried to make it all about Trump. She lost. Dems don’t seem to have learned from this. Something beats nothing, and the Dems have nothing right now.
- Illegals are not a voting block. Courting illegals over WWC voters means picking a non-voting block over a voting block. That’s stupid
- The tax cut bill is going to be a net plus for the Rs. The Dems still think this is a loser, but money in the pocket is more convincing then debt for the children.
- Rural voters hate Dems. Period. Dems hate rural voters. So, gains in the House will be minimal.
- Economic messages are needed. Jobs FOR AMERICAN WORKERS, not for illegals are needed.
Nancy Pelosi stood for 8 hours to support illegals. Before that, she did NOTHING for American workers.
“A significant wing of the party continues to push for sharpened focus on a more populist economic message.”
The wing that habitually fails to show up in midterm/offyear/local elections but still thinks it should be taken seriously.
I see the groundwork is already being laid to blame the Sanders Democrats when Democrats lose in 2018; but the Hillary Democrats are in charge, so maybe we should blame them for a focus on punishing those who failed to vote for Hillary, rather than attract more voters to the party.
I have been engaged/energized since I was 18. Grateful that I finally had the legal ability/capacity to do so. Either you are grateful and put it into action or not. I’ve been on the losing side in plenty of primary and general elections too.
Maybe we should come out in favor stuffing all the “illegals” into internment camps with special showers and disposal facilities. Would that be a winning message?
Wow, instead of 1 pile, we get 5 piles of Bullshit Mountain!
Unfortunately the Democrats could screw up a one car funeral.
These are great points. I’d like to add a couple:
6) All politics are local. The message almost certainly needs to be different in different locations.
7) Character matters. The main reason some Republicans are turning away from the Trump administration has to do with the lying, sexual harassment, and collusion with Russia. Our candidates need to be squeaky clean.
8) Character matters, but it’s not the whole story. Trump got elected after the p*y grab tape. We can’t run only on Trump’s character.
9) We need to be as united as possible. I see messages here that talk about Hillary and Bernie. That was yesterday’s election. Focus on today’s. Find the things we can get behind and push them, and tweak as needed locally. What can we get behind? I submit: Improved healthcare (details to be worked out), Deficit reduction, voter rights, protection of the voting system, recognition that Russia is not our friend and we need to take some actions to protect ourselves.
Good additions. You are focusing on the issues.
Something needs to be done to become competitive in rural areas. There are a couple of ECONOMIC issues which could help:
A) Focus on local solutions which keep money locally. Take on WalMart, ShopKo, Walgreens. These mega corporations strip assets and money from local communities and funnel them to distant places. What could be done to foster local co-operatives which employ locals and keep the money in the community?
B) Focus on anti-globalist initiatives. We don’t need illegals. We can find ways to hire locals.
C) Focus on Restructuring NAFTA. Trump was right about that. NAFTA, signed by Bill Clinton, cost rural areas millions of jobs, and was a factor in HRC’s loss in 2016. We need a redo.
The issue is and was jobs. The idiots who say that unemployment is 4% are morons. That is U2 unemployment. U6 is still about 20%, and there are huge numbers of Americans still on SSD. Get those off that program and in jobs.
