Discussion for article #233002
Democrats can be such cowards sometimes. All the governor has to do is have his fiancé resign from being a consultant and anything else that is a conflict. DUH!
Sauce for the goose.
The GOP would defend the governor in similar circumstanceâtheyâd accuse people of âplaying politics,â condemn the media for its âhalf-truths,â declare that he/she was unaware of any impropriety, and eventually it would go away.
Democrats start screaming and rushing for the exits.
Isnât the Wisconsin Mouth Breather under federal investigation? He is their golden boy du jour in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.
Or to put it another way. Republicans are either corrupt or willing to look the other way when their members are corrupt (same thing) and Democrats wonât tolerate corruption and they arenât hypocrites when one of their own is corrupt.
I see it as a strength.
I guess I am thinking more of David âDiaperâ Vitter staying in the Senate and now probably being the next Governor of LA, while Anthony Weiner took legal, albeit really creepy and bizarre photos of his underwear, and he is forced to resign in disgrace.
I donât like the double standard. The old IOKIYAR meme is very true. And the media equates those types of scandals when there is very little real comparison. I think the family values GOPers are as rotten as they come because they hide behind the Bible and if caught they invent some redemption story. Their troops circle the wagons around them.
But such is the world in which we live I guessâthe world of false equivalence and corporate media.
And donât forget the Governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford. He had an extramarital affair, spent public funds on excursions to Argentina for trysts with his lover, declared his love for his concubine and left his wife. Two articles of impeachment were drawn up, however, DEMOCRATS blocked impeachment TWICE. The third time, the articles passed, but nearly all the charges were dropped and Sanford was merely censured. Then, South Carolinians elected Sanford to CONGRESS!
He is a governor not a Supreme Court Justice. If he were Clarence Thomas nobody would say a word. but he is a governor, so having his live-in take things from people seeking the governors favor is a no-no.
If I were the governor I would hold a press conference and state, âI will resign as soon as Scott Walker of Wisconsin resigns. I will resign as soon as Rick Scott of Florida resigns. Until that time, go fuck yourself.â
We have countless Senators and Representatives in Congress who are allowed to vote on legislation that they have a vested financial interest in, yet the Governor of Oregon is considered a criminal?
Dems are the party of morally responsible government. He should resign. Period. We should not hold Republicans to the same standard unless we are willing to see that standard applied to our own party. Anything less is hypocrisy.
yeah, you wouldnât get my vote.
Democrats need to hold their politicians to the same standard they hold the opposition. That is the ONLY path to better government. Kitz is my Governor and he needs to go.
ROFLMAO
This headline is so overwrought as to be comical. Dems are not âabandoningâ Kitz, they are focusing on the work (as is Kitz) there is NO recall effort, and the only people trying to make this into anything are the same media heathers who always try to push string and go after Dems in trouble narratives.
Pathetic.
âKitz is my Governor and he needs to go.â
Kits is my governor and until the probes turn up anything actually done wrong by the Gov. he can and will remain doing his job we elected him to do knowing all this.
But nice try.
Most of this was known before he was re-elected in November. I donât think he had publicly acknowledged the payments to his girlfriend at the time but itâs not like the payments were a secret. There is something weird about all this, sure heâs getting the attention now since he made a public statement about it, but there seems to be an odd amount of attention from TPM on this one.
Exactly. Witness the investigations swarming around Chris Christie ranging form the bridge fiasco to the reports of ethical problems surrounding his travel. To Republicans, none of it maters and Christie is all good, and presidential timber. Well, when that tree falls, watch out.
ReallyâŠis this really a controversy? The vast majority of scientists are ranting about the catastrophic consequences of Climate Chaos and we ignore their warningsâŠthatâs a controversy. The oceans are dyingâŠthat is a consequence. Police shooting unarmed citizensâŠthatâs a controversy. Trash a good governor over a problem that does not existâŠthat is not a controversy. I think the human race is insane.
Republicans have no standards. They are lying grifters who sell out to Corporate carpetbaggers.
We have to apply the same standard of scrutiny to Kitzhaber as we do to Chris Christie despite the fact that one of them is a flaming asshole.
