I’m certain we’ll soon see a large number of current Trumpublicans start trying to mount that same horse (as if it were a lifeboat) claiming, “I was NEVER a Trump supporter!” The GOP is so barren of a workable ideology and decency that they committed suicide by not staying an arms length away from Toxic Trump and working cooperatively with the Dems in congress.
Imagine how successful they might have been at owning the ideologically vacant Trump by forcing him to sign bill after bipartisan bill they passed by ignoring and marginalizing him with the help of cooperating Democrats!
@jimtoday - Personally, I think it has been 100% about the judgeships and the agency appointments. Repubs know that their electoral advantage can’t last and they probably know that the Repub Party as they have known it is unlikely to survive the tRump presidency, but they can remake the american legal and regulatory landscape for at least the next generation (and probably more) by playing along with tRump. That is the only way that they can cement their legacy, because their Repub Party may not exist anymore (it’s now the openly racist, nationalistic, faux-populist, jingoist tRumpublican Party). It’s a Devil’s bargain for sure, but it seems that it is one that McConnell/Ryan et al. thought they could live with (see, e.g., Miss Lindsey’s transformation).
