Discussion: Dem Slams Chaffetz For 'Beating Up On' Planned Parenthood President For Her Pay (VIDEO)

Rep. Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat and the ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, used the time he was allocated to question Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards to talk about Wall Street and corporate accountability.

"The chairman just gave you a series of questions, I have a few other ones: Ms. Richards I find it extremely hypocritical that Republicans on this committee have criticized your salary when you have violated no laws, while these same Republicans completely ignore the CEOs of huge companies that are actually guilty of breaking the law.

Earlier this year, Citigroup, J.P. Morgan and other banks pled guilty to manipulating currency markets and interest rates. They were fined more than $5 billion for their actions. And yet Citigroup’s CEO still received $13 million last year, and J.P. Morgan’s CEO received $20 million. These banks get extensive federal support […] Ms. Richards, do you know if House Republicans made any effort to strip the banks of their federal support? Well I can tell you, they didn’t."

Moral of the story:

If you want to break the law and still receive Federal money - be a bank.

If you want to provide safe reliable health and sex education that empowers women, men, teens and families - forget it.

To right wing ideologues facts don’t matter, they just get in the way.

I just donated to Planned Parenthood!

These little gop/pricks taking issue of her salary. When they are all on the government dole!

When the wall street execs testified, not one gop/prick commented on their salaries!

Unless Ms. Richards has made her tax return public, it is highly illegal for Chaffetz to have access to it.
The IRS frowns on that kind of behavior—to the point of prosecuting people who gain such access to private tax records.

Your comment just made me realize something–did the GOP search out her income tax returns? Aren’t those supposed to be private?

You can get the data from Charity Navigator which, incidentally, gives PP a very good rating.

Republicans have long opposed excessive executive salaries. Everyone knows that.

They don’t need to hear the answers because they already have their minds made up on what the answers are and what they want to do.

Cheffetz thought it cool to beat Richards up over her salary. Apparently she makes too much money for a woman. Don’t tell me there isn’t a war on women being waged by the forces of male privilege and power.

iras dad: you almost got it. MALE executive compensation is the key. makes me wonder how carly golden parachuted out of HP?

It’s gratifying to watch the GOP’s outreach effort to women voters.
