YeahâŚno chance that will be taken out of context and go horribly wrong. None at all.
LOL. Oh, sheite, I wonder how that will go over? Iâm going to miss Senator Boxer when sheâs retired from the U.S. Senate. I love you, (my former) Senator!!
Condescension scale: Level 8
Grandpas are overrated.
Maybe because they want Sanders in the White House and Ryan in the HOR so we can have a new version of The Munsters. Alberta Rafael would have been a better choice for that, though.
The âgrandapaâ thing seems a little silly, given that his Democratic opponent is only a few years younger, and a grandparent as well.
But the other remarksâŚ
âBernieâs entry in the race I think was very helpful, because he was able to communicate to the young people who were longing to hear their grievances addressed,â
"And so he connected with a whole group of voters who donât ordinarily vote.â
Boxer also said sheâs optimistic Sanders would do âeverything in his power to keep Donald Trump out of the White House.â
âŚwere quite complimentary and constructive, and all the more impressive given the shabby way she was treated by (some) Bernie supporters in Nevada.
Nice job, Senator Boxer.
If it were as simple as that, then why isnât Hillary Clinton âGrandmaâ?
Hah. And at my age, I only saw him as my old curmudgeonly Jewish UncleâŚWho knew?
I saw him immediately as a Zayde â and this to me (at least in the beginning of the primary) was a very positive image â the old wise man. I think that is what Boxer is getting at â its not a slur.
Even if there might be a small kernel of truth in her assertion, at best itâs âinartful phrasingâ that stepped all over her other message, which was that Sanders will help the Dems in the general. She would have been better advised to avoid the whole issue of motivation altogether. I agree with zrxâit comes off condescending as hell, regardless of her intended meaning. Thatâs not the way to bring the party together.
Hillary has referred to herself as a proud Grandma on several occasions.
She celebrates being a grandmother. Its only a slur if its used pejoratively. Nothing wrong with being older â and hopefully wiser.
No one wants to imagine their Grandma killing a man and dragging his body into a public park, thatâs why!!
Actually, in context, she didnât mean it as a put-down (at least thatâs my thinking). What she said related to a psychologistâs POV with regards to Bernieâs campaign and why he seemed to appeal to a pretty good chunk of the younger and first-time voters (among others). But, taken out of context (which I think will happen) âŚ
With all due respect to Senator Boxer - and I have voted for her when I lived in CA - this probably isnât helpingâŚ
No one wants to be told that they prefer a candidate because he reminds them of Grandpa PullMyFinger.
And the click-bait headline doesnât exactly help. She said a couple of very nice, magnanimous, constructive things, and one silly Pop-psychology thing that could be (mis)interpreted as a dig at his age, and TPM chose the latter as the headline. Ugh.
So un-like them reallyâŚ
Since when do grandparents have such a negative connotation? When I think about my grandparents, its with deep love and respect â and they brought stability into my life when my own parents were fucking up.
