Discussion: Dem Sen.: On Russia, Shutting Down The Government Is ‘The Only Card We’ve Got’

Okay, I get this, I really do. But no, just no.

Edited to add a comment I made later in the thread: The trouble with blackmail is that you have to not care about what you’re blackmailing the other person about. And you have to have an end game. In particular, what happens when your bluff gets called? How far are you prepared to go?

I’m sorry but I just don’t see this ending well for Democrats. What I do see, or foresee, at any rate, is Republicans salivating at the thought of playing their usual games with this.

Do it - when it gets to the point where they won’t do what is right for American then shut this bitch down.

Don’t tiptoe around saying O we’re the good guys we don’t want to do this.

This government is not a legitimate government. We need to stop it any way we can.

Sorta off topic, but a question in my mind lately and if anyone knows: IIRC, our government has in place a fully-named “shadow” government who are always waiting in the wings should a disaster take out everyone in the line of succession to the presidency. Do we know who those folks are this go-round? Who names them? Considering the magnitude of the clusterfuck we’re currently mired in, would it be out of the question to have SCOTUS nullify the current “administration” along with last year’s federal election results AND install said shadow government while we set a new election date? I mean, this is already at national emergency level. Seriously.

Drastic times can take drastic measures.

I think we passed drastic about 6 or 7 weeks ago.

Welp, there goes that. You can bet now that people are mentioning it that McConnell is planning on forcing us to do it so that we can suffer the damage they’ve suffered for doing it in the past. I have no doubt he views this as an opportunity for revenge.

Did republicans suffer when they did it?

No. We are the party who believes in government. The government exists to serve the people. To give that up is to give up one of our basic fundamental beliefs. I totally understand and sympathize where he is coming from, but that is wrong thinking.

Well, right now the government, represented by republicans who control the executive and legislative branches, does NOT exist to serve the people.

The legitimate government exists to serve the people.

This is not a legitimate government.

I do not think we are anywhere near that point yet.

Not until the GOP refuses completely to hold hearings on any of this. At that point we are there.
