Discussion: Dem Sen. Gillibrand: I Will Ask Justice Department To Investigate Chokehold Death

Discussion for article #230785

Color me jaded, but this won’t make a difference even if the Justice Department investigates. Every cop who gets away with murder makes it that much easier to get away with it the next time it happens.

Meanwhile, Senator Shmuck Chumer (D-NYC) believes that we should fix the economy first, before calling on the DOJ to investigate.

Good for Senator Gillibrand!

And you are absolutely spot on.

“Nobody unarmed should die on a New York City street corner for suspected low-level offenses.” That this even needs to be said is pathetic. But it does need to be said, so thank you, Sen. Gillibrand.

The more I listen to what Gillibrand says, the more I like her.

Let me go further…

“Nobody unarmed should die on a New York City street corner no matter what they’re suspected of doing.” Period.

Seriously, WTF. The police work for US - it’s time to reform the current police culture. They really do act like an army of occupation.

It is interesting that we fail to focus on the officials who are letting murdering policemen go free. The real corruption is found at the intersection of the police officer and the prosecutor. Prosecutors work with police all the time. They develop relationships with them. They are dependent on what officers do for them in the courtroom. Prosecutors are often more interested in protecting police officers than they are in serving the public.

Agreed completely. We need to have AT LEAST one Dem come out and speak against this. No middle of the road, no “teachable moments.” That’s sh*t is done. Granted, I’m not expecting anything from it (the country’s too far gone at this point) but we need to have our side come out on the side of justice (or, some kind.)

Yup - Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan just came home.

Someone in another thread today put forth the idea that a special prosecutor automatically be assigned in these types of police cases for the very reason of that special relationship between police and prosecutors.

If it is automatic, no fee-fees need to be wounded to get closer to fair grand jury determinations.

Schumer just tweeted about it too. It’s at least something but the decision just came out.
Now, we need Hillary and warren to say something, hopefully they will. Rand Paul where are you?

These are real human beings not animals. Like she says “low level offenses” do NOT a thug make, nor a THUG deserving of being lynched by cop as Brown was. If selling loose cigs is a crime in NYC to be overseen cops, shame on NYC.
They want to be able to arrest people if this is suddenly a crime as I read Gardner was arrested over this several times.

Moral of the story:
If you’re black, the local D.A. won’t have your back.

Gillibrand knows full well that nothing will come from a DOJ investigation. Civil rights violations standards are too high. Why doesn’t she do something meaningful and call for the cowardly Gov Cuomo to appt a special prosecutor? Both she and Cuomo are just covering their own asses asking for something meaningless from the Feds.
