Discussion: Dem. Rep. Rice Continues Calls For Conyers To Resign: Enough Is Enough

I’d be careful in establishing the honorable thing to do is resign when confronted with credible accusations of sexual improprieties. Democrats will find it difficult enough retaking Congress. Losing half their caucus to resignations will make the task nigh impossible.

“Compare what happened to Harvey Weinstein, Louis C.K., Mark Halperin — all appropriate consequences. And yet once we start getting into the realm of politicians, well, let’s get the ethics commission into it, and let’s investigate this, you know, and take forever to come up with a conclusion.”

I wish that she hadn’t said this.

Due process is a bummer.

Conyers’ seat is a safe Democratic seat. Rice knows she can take the “high ground” on this and still not cause a loss of a seat.

She is not taking the high ground, she is wallowing in mud.

Hence the quotation marks.

There are a great many sexual indiscretions that people could make the case, in our current environment, constitute deplorable, resignation worthy behavior. Independent studies have shown upwards of half of all males at some point engage in sex outside their marriage, i.e. adultery. I’d be careful about starting a sweep and dragnet that ended up ensnaring a helluva lot of people in districts that weren’t as safe as Conyer’s.

So…she wasn’t always able to win her cases in court so NOW she has decided SHE reviewed the allegations, finds them ‘credible’ and he should resign. WTF. NO. We are not going to be judge jury and executioner. Find 10 women that don’t know each other that have the same story and we’ll chat.

Fair enough.

So Conyers and Franken … when are the Republican accusers going to come forward (besides the ones we already know about).

Though Conyers did admit to it, while due process is important, she also knows (at least I hope that she does) that a future public is going to try to rehabilitate the aforementioned names.

Also, her ethics committee quote and the one about “the court of public opinion” will be used against her, should she end up in legal trouble.

she’s somewhat being holier than thou.

Somewhat??

She’s being judge, jury, and executioner all rolled into one sanctimonious ball.

Somehow, I prefer to wait until all the evidence is in.

Conyers seat is safe. They love him in Detroit. He has a large base. This shite about him old news. People need to be made aware that it is open season on vocal and powerful Democratic’s. Especially Progressive and Liberals. There are a couple of articles that they should read:

A Conspiracy Theory about Conspiracy Theorists

This whole smear has Steve Bannon, Roger Stone, Mike Cernovich, and infowars all over it. Stone and even Alex Jones tweeted about the smear several hours before the first story broke.

The Alt-Right Propaganda Machine is Winning Because Americans Insist on Being Stupid: A Timeline of The Al Franken “Scandal”-https://medium.com/@Erinlank/the-alt-right-propaganda-machine-is-winning-because-americans-insist-on-being-stupid-a-timeline-of-e3bad99a51be.

Make no mistake, the right is fighting a dirty, mud slinging war and the left has barely figured it out yet. The right is conspiring to get its way, not the democratic way. However, don’t be disheartened about strong Democratic leaders. Just remember, they must be a huge threat to the right to be attacked and discredited this way.
I’m going to contact my Democratic senators to let them know many of us outside of Washington understand how the right is undermining democracy. Do they?

Not only is the right fighting dirty, Democrtic leaders are falling in line with it because thy are too stupid to see it. They are willing to capitulate to mudslinging rather than fight for their county because this is what this is. Also, liberals and progressives need to stop this resign nonsense. None of the accusations against Franken have been substantiated. Anyone can make anonymous accusations. Tweeden and the other woman accusers of Frankens have been discredited. There will be more accusers and they will be targeted against the most powerful and influential Dems in office. WAKE UP! Tell your representatives to WAKE UP! There is a pattern. Look at it for what it is. A hit job-smear job. Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. Considering what has been going on in Washington for the last 50 years, the moral high ground these Democratic reps are taking is a joke.

Until they somehow force Trump to submit to an Ethics Investigation they need to STFU!

My issue with her, is that if she gets into trouble with a future ethics violation, she’s going to whine about having her day in court and she’s going to get pissed, when someone runs back this ‘court of public opinion’ quote at her.

“We are not talking about a court of law here,” she said. “I have spent my entire career, before coming to Washington, as a prosecutor. This is not beyond a reasonable doubt. We don’t have any legal standard here. We are talking about the court of public opinion. We are talking about holding men accountable for their actions.”

My issue with her is that she has a clear double standard here–-always believe the woman and never believe the man.

That’s a star chamber/kangaroo court way of thinking, and it’s singularly un-American.

Many on the Left find it puzzling, discouraging and outrageous the citizens of Alabama would vote Roy Moore into the Senate, knowing what they do now about his past behavior. I do think we owe it to ourselves to be a bit more introspective and philosophically consistent. Being a member of the “He may be a pervert, but he’s OUR pervert!” club is nothing to be proud of.
