Agree with this one.

I’m not visiting CNN until they reveal Lewandowski’s bias, so I don’t know the full text of Mrs. Clinton’s comments.

I agree that capital punishment should not be part of the judicial system’s standard remedies for common crime. I also agree with Mrs. Clinton’s more nuanced take. I think the world is better off without Osama bin Laden around to directly, indirectly, or through rumor to affect current events.

And they continue to placate Sanders with the party platform which wont matter much expect for letting the media talk about the differences between it and Clinton. But hey this is all about Sanders not actually about helping people raise the minimum wage or take out the death penalty.

There will be a death penalty repeal measure on the California ballot this November. The Democratic Party is behind this measure as well as some prominent and, clearly, thoughtful individuals.

The measure would repeal the state death penalty and replace the maximum punishment for murder with life in prison without possibility of parole. It would apply retroactively to those already sentenced to death.

Goering, Streicker, Hoess and the rest of the Nazi thugs surely deserved to be executed. The death penalty should be rarely used but its debate at a political convention is a distraction.

Yes, but did it include a pony for Sanders? Otherwise he won’t endorse Clinton…

I’m only being half-sarcastic…a Facebook friend linked to a Bernie Facebook page that asked supporters who they would vote for, and said Trump was not a possibility. The whole post was flooded with people saying they would vote for Trump, or that Trump and Clinton were basically the same person…the first is just sad, the second ludicrous, and nothing Clinton or the Democrats do is going to change those people’s minds. Hopefully the Democrats don’t bend over too far trying to get the Berniebots…

The Democrats want to end the death penalty? The “pro-life” party will never agree to that.

Bernie set fire to his legacy over the last 3 weeks—and when someone pointed it out to him, he threw gasoline on the blaze.

It chaps my ass to let bernie think he’s won anything, but abolishing the death penalty belongs in the platform of the Democratic Party, and it’s well past time for it. We haven’t been this close since the 1970s. Fuck bernie, but I support this 100%.

OT but reported this morning - Clinton raised $68.5 million in June!

And apparently without UK Parliament participation…

GO HILLARY!

Right thing to do, that will probably lose us votes in November. I hope it is worth it.

An interesting article was published in The Guardian, earlier this week, on a small group of US prosecutors that are responsible for an enormous percentage of the death penalty cases in the country. I’m curious if the decision to pursue this anti-death penalty platform isn’t in some way related to the Harvard study cited in the story: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jun/29/us-deadliest-prosecutors-death-penalty-five-attorneys-justice-system

Clinton isn’t placating Sanders so much as she is recognizing the progressive wing of the party is pretty strong. I think the emerging platform has a lot for every Democrat.

A platform is where a party says the right thing. It is supposed to be inspirational.

I’m calling bs to that list

Paul Ebert’s name isn’t on that list and that dude is one of the main folks who uses the death penalty regularly. That man is so good at what he does, Ashcroft sent the DC sniper case to him

Goering was not executed, he chomped down on a cyanide capsule in his cell at Nuremberg. The others were hanged.

It is inspirational. How America feels about the death penalty is not yet a settled issue. There are a lot of people who are passionate about it. Some of those passionate people are ones who might vote for Democrats, but are on the other side of the death penalty issue. True blue California voted in the death penalty by referendum several years ago, for example. It may be a self-imposed wedge issue to put it in our platform.
