Discussion: Dem Leaders: 'Very Strong' Democratic Sentiment To Oppose GOP Budget Bill

Time to take a stand, Senate Dems. President Shithole has given you an opportunity. Take it and use it to protect the Dreamers.

Trump said it. A bipartisan budget is not what he campaigned on. The Dems should use Trumps word against him and the GOP.

On the one hand I hate to see a government shut down, on the other hand I hate to see select groups get screwed. The military all ready takes too much of the budget, already spending more than them the next 7 countries combined, while our infrastructure, health care, and safety nets suffer. Reminds me of the Reagan years when the US won the military budget war with USSR, BREAKING THE economy of Russia, except we are doing it to ourselves now.

Dem Leaders: ‘Very Strong’ Democratic Sentiment To Oppose GOP Budget Bill

Great.

But speaking of very strong Democratic sentiment:

Our message is simple, no DACA, NO BILL!

The House R gang is revolting (as well as revolting) so D support is needed to pass a budget. It would be a damn shame if this leads to overthrowing Ryan in an election year with some crazy old white guy in the WH.

This isn’t even getting out of the House. The HFC is bucking Ryan, and it should come as no surprise. They’ve not been happy with his CR strategy, and he has finally gotten through the holidays are they are putting their collective foot down. Because they want these battles. And so do the Dems.

Ryan’s incompetence as a Speaker and leader of the republican caucus is about to go on public display in a huge way. He doesn’t seem to realize that so many things he has been kicking the can on (DACA, CHIPS, Debt Limit Hike, CSRs for healthcare, etc.) have all become directly tied to the budget, and he can no longer pull together just a basic appropriations bill to keep the lights on.

I suspect this is going to be a long protracted battle.

Which is bad news for folks like my fellow federal workers who will be designated as “Essential” and forced to work for no pay…

It is, but the blame falls 100% of republicans, particularly Ryan. He has been trying to avoid dealing with actual House issues for a very long time now, by kicking the can through a series of very short term CRs. That’s a horrible way to manage the appropriations process, but its a down right insane process to try and manage actual policy issues like DACA or CHIPs.

I get that these are going to be deeply unpopular for republicans to deal with this year, but Ryan has been trying to avoid them all together, and that simply won’t work. Its basically “I don’t want to stop to get gas” approach…and the gas tank is empty. You either stop the car at a gas station, or the car stops on its own in the middle of nowhere…but it IS going to stop. Your desire otherwise has zero impact upon that.

Having lived through the 1995-96 shutdown where coworkers had no Thanksgiving or Christmas and the TexAssHole shutdown in 2013 and seen that the Republicans came out stronger than before because of the Republican slant in the American Corporate Controlled Conservative Press. I know the overwhelming majority of the media–hate radio, right wing papers, alt-right websites and Pulpit Pimp Preachers will continue to kiss Republican ass no matter what.

I don’t think so.

The average voter is going to blame “Washington”…and right now, the average voter knows Washington is completely run by republicans.

They are taking the hit on this one, and its going to be a big hit. Or rather, I suspect its going to be series of big body blows, one after another.

Coming from where I work and what I do that’s not what happened in the past and that won’t happen this time.

Who would they get to replace him, though? The only reason he got the gavel in the first place was because all the other contenders hate each other’s guts too much to fall in line behind anyone else. I think they’re stuck with Ryan no matter how bad he screws this up.

Luckily for them, they won’t need to worry about choosing a Speaker next year.

John Boehner just sat in the warm sunlight, poured a glass of merlot and smiled.
