I really appreciated former Governor Beshear, and I can’t wait for the next Governor Beshear. Folks can say what the will about dynasties, but I’m increasingly impressed with the new AG. He stepped out of the gate swinging for the fences, and I suspect crazy ass, bagger Bevin will keep him extremely busy.

Look when your own party, legislators and AG all say no, it does mean something to fly in their faces. Given almost unanimous opposition, what does Bevin think the KY Supreme Court will do? Will he ignore them too?
Can he be recalled? Anyone here know KY’s statutes on a recall petition?
Certainly it can’t cost very much to inform Kentucky youth Jesus rode a dinosaur and all Muslims are going to hell. Once that knowledge is imparted what else could they possibly need to know?
If Kentucky had a provision on the books for a recall election, Bevin would certainly be facing one, but the only available redress for Kentucky residents is appealing to the Kentucky State Senate to remove Bevin from office; thus the petition based on a 1991 Kentucky Legislative Research Commission regarding the impeachment, removal from office, process.
He can’t be recalled, but he can be impeached and it’s nearly impossible to do that much. The voters of KY are stuck with Bevin, and I think a lot of us damn well deserve to be. Let him work his magic over the next four years and I do believe KY voters will be begging for a Democratic governor.
But the Koch’s bought that cut when Bevin got the job.
YES! Fantastic news, Plucky. No doubt this sh*tstain thought the AG’s office was just a joke that he could ignore at his whim. Similar to what’s going on in IL, state higher ed. in these states is seen by the Rethug govs. as nothing more than a money pit that usually benefits minorities anyway.
As a Republican and a TeaBagger, Bevin is above the law. Rules and regulations are for Democrats and serfs (although, in GOPLand, they’re probably the same thing).
“I do not take any joy or satisfaction out of this action,” Beshear said at the news conference.

There’s a lot of bitchin about Bevin in Kentucky. But is just so happens they voted for him and Ill bet they’ll re-elect him as well.
A Republican governor from Louisville taking a hacksaw to UK’s budget is almost certainly not going to end well.
I don’t think so. This is only the third Republican governor KY has had since the mid 60s. And the election was an extremely low turnout election in which everyone thought the Democrat had it in the bag. Literally, all the polling was way off. Worse than that, he’s pissed off so many different factions in such a short amount of time that I suspect Republicans will be running hard and fast away from him come November. In the meantime, Democrats won 3 out of 4 special elections in the state House and continue to maintain control of the chamber.
In this little story lies the heart of why the Republican Cult is soooo’ antagonistic to ALL levels of education: One of the poorest, least educated and whitest counties in the country is Owsley Co, Kentucky…and it is 99.22% white and 95% Republican.
It is a sterling example of why the GOPigs continue the ‘culture wars’ and are so hostile to education reform and universal health care…In spite of all common or any sense (since the county relies enormously on BigGummit largesse), hate and bigotry and racism and homophobia and bible thumping and gun humping…etc…always prove winners for the GOP in these areas.

How soon the voters forget! I would have thought they would have remembered Ernie Fletcher, and he was an angel compared to Beven.
Only $41 million? Pfftt!!. I realize the guv did this unilaterally. And that’s a point of contention. But here in Arizona last year (when the state had a surplus from tax income) the legislature, at the governor’s bidding, cut $100 million from our state’s 3 universities and eliminated all state support for the community colleges in Pima and Maricopa counties where Tucson and Phoenix are located (respectively). $100 million dollars. Our state’s “rainy day” fund presently is somewhat over $400 million. We are running a budget surplus both this year and last year. The Governor wants, therefore, to offer a cut in business tax and a tax cut for “Job creators” (sound familiar?). The budget here in Arizona is smaller than many states at around $9-10 billion. If the state would remove just a few special interest tax cuts we could fully fund universities, community colleges and K-12 without any impact on the state budget.
When my career began at the University of Arizona the state supplied 45% of the operating budget. When I retired in 2012 that stood at under 7%. Every ear some state rep. would tell us: “Oh, it’s just a little one time cut.” After45 years of cuts it becomes a trend. Republicans have held majorities in both state chambers since 1969 (when the cuts began btw). I can say without equivocation that republicans in Arizona are very much against education at any level.
LOL True, but Bevin won in a very low turnout election that absolutely no one outside of his campaign thought he might actually win. Democrats made the grave mistake of overconfidence. Bevin’s election was also a knee jerk reaction to the SCOTUS marriage equality decision and as a result of Kim Davis’ fame, which drove the Evangelicals to the ballot box. Plus, with KY always being late to the party, always missing every trend by about five years, we just had to try that failed TP governance for ourselves.
@darrtown Do you think that the legislature is trying to esentially close the state university system? That’s what it sounds like to me. Also, is there a lot of pushback on this (i.e. protests, strikes, etc) If not, does AZ have a higher than average ration of older seniors who don’t think that having a state uni. system is important.
(p.s. I’m not attacking seniors; within a short time, I’ll be there myself. However, I’d like to think that I’m one of the “good ones.”) 
Oh Plucky, I know you have been reading the local news as much as I have. What a mess! I think AG Beshear will keep Bagger Bevin busy too and hopefully that will keep the damage to a minimum. If Ky had a recall law, we’d be there now, no doubt. The dislike for Bevin is just going to keep growing, no going back now, it has a momentum of its own. One termer for sure but keeping the pressure on him should help stem the tide some. What a twerp, what a nightmare! And I agree that young Beshear has a bright future. Punchable face if there ever was one that Bevin.
