Not a problem. Now you can haul the miscreants before the appropriate (Democratically-led) committees and discover what legal jujitsu was used to justify such a decision.
The first question should be: " Can yiou cite the section of the U.S. Code that characterizes the DOI an independent agency like the U.S. Postal Service.
The second question should be: Is the DOI authorized to retain entrance fees or must they be directed to the US Treasury?
The third question should be: Does the DOI have to request appropriations every year year?
And the fourth question should be: Having answered “no” to the three previous questions, just who the f**k do you think you are?
Hey, guys, Interior’s got a new business model: Have unpaid employees collect fees to keep the parks open so that they can work for free. Genius, huh?
Mitch are you okay with Trump turning America into a SHITHOLE country?
By the way, your actions in not passing on those bills to Trump and open government, is TREASONOUS!
In the ongoing saga about this admin’s incompetence, this cheers me.
“The Department of Interior is very likely violating appropriations law,” Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN), the new chair of the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, told the Post, adding: “We are certainly going to be doing oversight as the acting secretary moves forward with this, and he will be hearing from me directly.”
Brava to Ms. McCollum
It’s all a part of the GOP immigration plan. They intend to make American less appealing, so immigrants won’t want to come here in the first place. And Democrats will want to emigrate to Canada, so it’s a win-win for Republicans. Make America a shithole country so they can live here all by their festering selves.
There are a number of states which are anteing up so national parks in the state can remain open including NY so the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island can remain open for tourists.
Go Go Betty !!
GONADler !!!
Give 'em Schitt, Adam!!!
And this has everything to do with the Parks keeping the clock in the old post office -Trump Hotel- open when everything else is closed.
SFGate has an article today from the Washington Post about this that’s even more critical, including the following:
But Theresa Pierno, president and CEO of the National Parks Conservation Association, said in an email that the move would simply drain money that was supposed to be spent on addressing the parks’ massive maintenance backlog.
“It’s incredibly concerning that the Acting Interior Secretary is putting political pressure on superintendents to keep parks open at the expense of parks’ long-term needs and protection,” Pierno said. “For those national parks that don’t collect fees, they will now be in the position of competing for the same inadequate pot of money to protect their resources and visitors. Draining accounts dry is not the answer.”

I disagree with this on every level. It only perpetuates and enhances the value of hostage-taking. If people don’t actually see what’s involved here, feel the pain, they won’t know what is actually taking place.
Moreover, why should state taxpayers be paying to, essentially, prolong and abet this despicable behavior? Such actions — bailouts, really — only encourage “more of the same.” Indeed, if it works this time, it’ll work in the future.
People need to see what Toadglans McMotherfucker is actually doing in all of the ugly minutiae of its rippling effects. The irony of people not being able to visit the Statue of Liberty because of his trumptrum should not be lost on anyone. On the contrary, it should be shouted from the rooftops.
Rather than letting him off the hook he should be allowed to hoist himself on his own petard.
Of course moron has to keep the D.C. hotel open. Where will the Saudis stay if it’s closed.
And another good article from today’s SFGate:
Well, the phrase “accounting nightmare” comes to mind.
First small, but incremental step toward privatization. Think about it.
It just sounds like those in charge of running national parks including the Statue of Liberty and the many parks in Utah and a few national sites around my fair city have a conscience and are not looking to further punish the public. It’s not like the visiting tourist are going to be so outraged they’ll take to the streets in protest. They’ll just quietly turn around and go home confirming their belief that government run by either party sucks.
Bad link. Here’s a good one.
Here’s hoping they’re allowed to get close enough to the WH to drop it off and no SS run them off with trash still in their hands.
Actions without consequences until the man-child gets his way.
