So I guess we’re to assume all construction slated to begin in such a short time frame is on lands already owned by the U.S. government? Otherwise it would seem 60 days is an extremely fast tracked window to litigate and settle eminent domain lawsuits filed by private landowners.
Not if you declare martial law and escort them off their land at gunpoint.
I suppose since this is such a dire emergency, we can dispense with environmental impact studies.
It’s also rather fast when you consider that the House Armed forces committee has refused to release the earmarked funds!
Them Mexican animals don’t have any rights to American soil any more than their people do!
Gotta love the parts of the desert where a footstep can create damage lasting centuries… weep to think of the damage being done on behalf of this fucker’s ego.
Are they looking for places where caravans and mass numbers of immigrants (especially criminals, drug dealers, and children) are invading the country.
Or are they looking for places where the big, beautiful wall will look good aesthetically and for photo ops.
and/or where it is easiest and fastest to put up - so something - anything - even an 18 ft fence - goes up.
And article Title writers (at cnn and here at tpm) can we call it what it is - both sections talked about here are described as fences, not walls.
So for the moment it sounds like they’re putting up fencing. Which will be incredibly effective. Not. In addition, since the fencing has to be build on US land, this has no effect on asylum seekers.
Just think, if we block special education funding for every disabled child in the nation we can build another mile of wall. That proposal would certainly bring hoots and hollers of approval at a Trump rally. A rally that probably had a couple hundred parents in attendance struggling with how to fund appropriate education for their special needs child.
How about surrounding 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
Now that would keep the bad hombre out.
Gee guys. A cynic might think you’re looking for easy-peasy sites to put up pieces of the wall so that you can con the suckers into believing it will all be like that.
Even that wouldn’t surprise me anymore.
How about we build a wall around Trump using some easy prefab things like, say, concrete forms. And then…
I thought the declaration would immediately be taken to court? What happened there?
“Traverse” means to cross. Are we to take from the headline that DOD is intruding on Mexican territory?
I am not sure if the House was going to sue first or wait to see if Congress would overturn the emergency. And it’s not clear from this story if the money being used for the construction described is part of what was hijacked, or comes from previously appropriated funds.
I’m hoping they do that. The optics of evicting people from their land would be priceless.
Just think of what it will cost to tear the damn thing down when the time comes. Or perhaps a call for volunteers would probably be big enough - make it a keg party once it’s down and even Brett beer boy would come.
Also too: Perhaps the DoD will just keep looking and looking and drag it out long enough.
We’ll just hire some cheap immigrant labor, they’ll have it down at a fraction of the cost and in no time. And if we allow them to keep the materials for salvage value, it’ll be gone even quicker.
