What the hell happened to TPM?

Sadly, unlike yesterday’s post, this is the kind of ill conceived nonsense I was afraid would characterized SLICE. As the previous commenter said, what the hell has happened to TPM.

More real journalism please.

Actually, I just wrote to Slice yesterday thanking Nona for the PKK story and the Ester Bloom piece on abortion, which while somewhat troubling for its privileged, white female (I am one) perspective, nevertheless holds promise for much more to come. This discussion on the implications of Broad City’s take on rape culture is excellent. What’s happening to TPM is that it’s evolving into a form of mass media I grew up with, loved and used to work for, a newspaper. But one that aims at a specific, politically progressive audience. The kind of thing we’ve been craving, insisting we desire, and then when it comes, love to bash. I love us! They’ve fallen a few times and I protested the crappy protofeminist (okay, I don’t really know what that word means) rantings of Marcotte yesterday and what’s her name last week with the stupid Biden piece. They will fall again, daily probably. But I love being able to come here and find all kinds of stuff I really want to read thanks to some great gatekeeping. TPM is not going to narrow back down, it’s going to broaden right up. And to think I came on board when it was AG, AG, AG every day. Good times.

Count me as someone who doesn’t mind this kind of cultural coverage. You may not think Broad City is funny, or culturally significant, and you don’t have to watch. And when you see a link to a discussion about it, you don’t have to click.

You forgot the last part. If enough of it comes this way, I don’t have to come to TPM.
