Discussion: Deal Reached To Avert Shutdown

Discussion for article #231172

I am disappointed that the progressives in the senate didnā€™t join with Cruz and Lee. They couldā€™ve used their leverage to clean the anti-middle class elements out of the bill. Theyā€™re certainly not going to get another chance in coming years to stand up for the middle class (other than theatrically) and prove their allegiance. Oh well, Citigroup wins another round, middle class gets another clue as to who owns their government, and DC continues on as they have. Funny how bipartisanship is at hand when it comes to giving Wall Street exactly what they want, and taking away money for WIC and all the other crap that was in this bipartisan bill. REally disgusting.

Iā€™m disgusted by all the petty childish behavior I see in the House and Senate. They are supposed to be our best 'n brightest ā€¦at least thatā€™s what I was taught when I was a kid in the 1950ā€™s. Since then Iā€™ve become increasingly cynical. And their current behavior is not improving my impression of them.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused.

WooHoo! A bunch of liberals I respect, voted with the hard RW and failed to protect the middle class. 56-40.

Oh, thank goodness, the status quo has been preserved. At least we might finally have a surgeon generalā€¦

I liked your post, but in truth the progressives did join in.

If I were a cynic, I would believe that Lee and Cruzā€™s dog and pony show was put on to deflect attention away from Warrenā€™s legitimate fight against the bank and pension poison pills.

But I am a cynic.

So fuck them all and their sellout asses.

Yeah, itā€™s kind of funny when Cruz and Lee could actually block something worthwhile, they fold. The BS stuff, they hold firm onā€¦

Ya, the oligarchy wins again. Shall we all wait outside watch for the tickle down?

Merry Xmas Jamie Dimon. Why do we have a Congress if Citigroup writes the legislation?

I would never call the behavior of people in Congress ā€œchildishā€. It is venal, it is devious, it is bought and paid for by big campaign donors, but it isnā€™t childish. This bill is discussed as a compromise, one that Obama, the compromiser in chief, has to sign. That means the Democrats wanted the government to continue to operate, but the Republicans wanted it to shut down. The Republicans and some Wall Street Owned Democrats wanted banks to have permission to gamble federal federal money, and have the ability to utterly destroy the world economy, but most Democrats didnā€™t want that. So, they compromised by keeping the government operating, and allowing banks to gamble and, if they wish, to destroy the world economy. This is hardly childish behavior.

Ahh the 50ā€™s, just about when Fred C. Koch was plotting to begin a takeover of governance through the John Birch Society, and folks said heā€™d never succeed.

What a fucking crock of shit; this isnā€™t a spending bill, itā€™s a massive fucking blowjob for Wall St. who will no doubt reward these greedy fucking criminals by showering them with payola that amounts to little more than whoring on a grand scale.

Fuck them ALL.

While Democrats must share the blame equally, this fetid bill wouldnā€™t have had a chance outside of a teabagger controlled Congress.

American ā€˜governanceā€™ amounts to how much graft the ā€˜vauntedā€™ business cabal of criminals can afford, and thus will the United States remain the most corrupt, greedy, malevolent entity on Earth.

Mission accomplished for a society marching towards total depravity.

Yeah, I got that wrong. I guess the establishment is in full control after all, not enough rebels yet to effect change. But for me this represents the last illusion falling away from my thinking and hope that there was actually a fight taking place in the wider sense, for better ideas. I can now see that there is no such fight, its just a pay to play game for the wealthy, and the job of politicians is to keep up a theatrical charade to make it seem like decisions are being hammered out and negotiated, that the two party system is working for the electorate, and that there is really something at stake each election that we could effect by the outcomes of elections that I participate in.

Maybe itā€™s because there are no ā€œprogressivesā€ in the Senate (or House), but just good old capitalist politicians of different bents. U.S. capitalism hasnā€™t been historically progressive - the only meaningful use of the term - in many a decade.
