Maybe this is just me being hopeful, but does anyone else have the feeling that the Clinton campaign has had the Apprentice tapes for a long time? It seems like their whole strategy has been laying the groundwork for them. The footage of Trump mocking the disabled reporter was one of the most popular clips they used in advertising this year… because it would prime people for Apprentice tapes with Trump using the R word? Same with regularly calling Trump racist for his birtherism. Reportedly he used the N word on the Apprentice set. Maybe I’m seeing a pattern out of blind hope. Regardless, it is a suspicion I have.

I have some understanding Of how Ms Matlin feels because I am very hard of hearing myself. Deaf in my right ear and about 60% remaining in my left ear. (thanks rock n roll). Sometimes it’s an advantage but mostly not.
One day karma is gonna drop by for a visit with Donald J trump. And it’s not going to be fun.

I don’t blame the celebrities for being involved. At least they were (in part) doing it for charity, and I some like Marlee Matlin were truly sincere in their desire to do good. Of course, the money that they won for charity didn’t come out of HO’s pocket.

Yes, the very thin skinned real estate developer jumped into politics after this takedown, even though he’d been talking about running for years. The best part was that after this event the president went back to the WH and killed Osama bin Laden.

As long as we’re doing deaf awareness, I’ll share a tidbit that horrified me years ago. I used to do special ed advocacy here in CA, and at one point requested all the Fair Hearing data from the state dept. of ed. Fair Hearing is when the parents and the school have exhausted all other means to resolve a dispute over the kid’s education and request a hearing in front of a state officer/judge sort of person. I’d never advocated for a deaf child, so I was stunned to find the results on 3 or so cases involving a deaf student. Here’s the horrifying part: a deaf student in 7th, 8th, 9th grade who had mastered 3rd or 4th grade materials was judged to have made acceptable progress. What?!
Also in the course of conferences and such, I heard presentations from a couple of deaf people. It turns out that deaf people have a high rate of depression and suicide due to isolation and sometimes molestation (they can’t tell, right?). The Donald Trumps of the world mocking them wouldn’t have helped at all. American Sign vs. lip reading and speech was a raging debate. Cochlear implants were a new thing and controversial as to whether it was a good thing or not. Marlee Matlin would have been a teenager while I was doing this, so if she’d been a just barely educated person, it would have been “normal” by CA standards. That she’s become what she has is a huge tribute to herself and all those who helped her become what she is. DT is an absolute piker compared to her. And I loved her performances in Law and Order SVU.

And one of the early non-standard signs taught to deaf kids, too. My son picked it up in a playground at a pre-school for deaf kids run by the State School for the Deaf. The older (hearing) kids thought it would be fun to teach the deaf kids some signs.
It created a bit of a kerfuffle in our household.

Unlike the clip below, every time Donald asked her for sex, she thought he was naming a time.
And obviously, she thought he wanted her to do a bunch of cleaning with her, which probably seemed odd at the time.

I saw it, and I’d forgotten it till you just mentioned it. Wow.
Here’s the best part: While the line in the skit was a joke (possibly just made up as an outlandish thing and who the hell knew that once again, satire is dead) it did turn out to be prophetic. Now, deaf voters have heard him. Delicious.
