My sister-in-law is deaf, has been since she was very young, and kids would mock how her voice sounded just like trump did. She might not have been aware of it, but the rest of her siblings were, and they were all hurt, but she grew into a strong independent woman with a lot of talent.

Years ago, when Ms. Matlin was just getting started in show biz, I watched her in a stand-up comedy routine. Iāll never forget she said that after painstaking effort learning how to speak, using her voice, enunciating words and all, she said people started asking her if she was from NYC. Besides being a good actress, sheās got good comedic timing.

One of my best friends from childhood is deaf. She went to the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton (VA). She graduated from Gallaudette University in Washington, D.C. Sheās worked for many years at the USDA in Bethesda, MD. Even as a kid, it never crossed my mind to think she had a mental problem. Trump has found yet one more way to insult me and those I love. He is seriously mentally ill ā not deaf people.

We need to be a bit sympathetic to little Donnie. Every morning of his life he has had to look in the mirror and see his tiny hands. You can imagine what that did to his psychic being. We should hope that some day he will feel he has finally gotten the revenge he wanted against his parents for handing down such tiny hands to him. Itās just sad.
