Of course they meant to refer to the unnamed black agent. After all, that’s why the agent was left unnamed and focus was on the criminal – by identifying him and him only by name.

Well, the clothes the agents (plural) are wearing are classic late-70s/early-80s FUNKY!!

To be fair, the photo came from a DEA publication that identified all three in the photo as DEA agents. That lends credibility to the assertion that it was actually just bad wording.

Yes, absolutely – just pointing out something that’s very easy to overlook in this circumstance, which is probably why so many thought so poorly of the tweet. I agree that the words alone are easily misconstrued, particularly in an internet environment brimming with ignorant bigots and snark.
