What hypocrisy? The lawyer dad undoubtedly shares Cruz’ politics; perhaps the daughter does as well. If anything, she should have more bothered by her father’s prior defense of the California law, since that was a direct assault upon gay civil rights.
Speaking of “double speak,”. Why are these fundraisers for HEIDI and Ted? Is she running for office? What is this about?
I think it’s pretty clear Cruz just says things for effect. He’s transparently insincere. So he’s probably not really against gay marriage. Who knows?
More money thrown down the rathole of Cruz for President. Why? He doesn’t have a chance.
I was referring to the fact that he is celebrating his daughter’s upcoming same-sex wedding at the same time as he is supporting candidates who are denying the legitimacy of this event. Isn’t this disheartening (at the least) to his daughter?
Heidi and Ted is this year’s Mitt and Ann. These women are arm candy who will in theory charm the crowd.
The daughter should be disheartened. First, the father defends a California law funded in no small part by out of state Utah Mormons and went down to defeat (Yay!), and second he’s rejecting her values and her love for another person. But like Scott Walker the father could opt out of attending the wedding and only go to the reception thereby retaining his homophobic purity.
Who knows? I have become rather jaded about the empathy of the well-to-do for others. The daughter is white, lives where she can legally marry, moves in circles where she probably won’t encounter comments or worse about her sexuality and/or marriage, and will probably have life-long financial security, so she wouldn’t mingle among socio-economics for whom being “queer” is a bigger deal. And the conditions of her parents’ acceptance of her openness and betrothal, despite the GOP politicos her father associates with, makes me think that the daughter is not a problematically active LGBTQ civil libertarian.
But certainly, I don’t know her, and I can be wrong.
Huh. How delightfully inconsistent.
I am sure she dislikes it, but presumably their (father/daughter) love for one another trumps it.
