Let the police use the tear gas and the riot shields if necessary. It takes a lot more courage to protest peacefully but resolutely than it does to get in a brawl with these asshats and make martyrs of them.
(Plus there’s the fringe benefit of them Michael Tracey-ing themselves when they inevitably play the victim card over bumping elbows or the like.)

Donald Trump made a lot of promises on the campaign trail, I don’t recall him promising this. There were plenty of dog whistles and flat out lies.
He was going to take care if ISIS in 30 days, repeal ACA on his first day in office, put every coal miner back to work, and keep the Carrier workers in Indianapolis.
When did he promise that we would become a nation of jack booted thugs? I guess I missed that one.
