Discussion: Dashcam Video Shows Chase Before Police Killing Of Walter Scott

Discussion for article #235189

I;ve watched it several times on MSNBC, I could not see the broken tail light either. The gap in the tape is after Mr. Scott runs from his car and is out of sight. You hear the officer screaming Taze, Taze, Taze - and that’s it.

It looks like someone else might have been in the car. Wonder what happended to that person. I agree with the comments above, it is hard to see where there is a broken tail light in light of the footage and angles. Perhaps they could release the earlier footage? I am sure that Eric Holder will be interested in seeing that.

The piece of dashcam video before he turns into the lot (prior to the edited clip above) shows the entire rear of the car being viewed by the officer. Video shows all tailights were working. Heres the link http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/09/us/south-carolina-police-shooting/

Correction: Apparently he was stopped for a third light violation. Apparently two is not enough. Who knew?

There’s a certain white cop apologist who absolutely, undeniably owes Mr. Scott’s family an apology. Mr. Scott did NOT try to take the dirty cop’s taser, there was no struggle. All that bullshit that certain people manufactured was just that, bullshit.

If there was a crack in the lens, it was minor. Bullshit traffic stop. He did not like a black guy driving a Benz.

The other person was questioned and then released.

Slager is a perfect example of what happens to people who aren’t able to break old dirty habits!

I’ve seen enough. It’s murder. I saw no reason and cannot imagine any plausible reason for the officer to have fired his weapon as he did. I just don’t know if it meets the definition of “premeditated” in SC. But most definitely a murder was committed.

At around 2:15, Scott opens the door and signals to Slager. It looks like he’s got a cell phone in his hand. Consider: he had the guy from whom he bought or was buying the car from on the other end, and was going to talk to the officer, and explain that the car was not stolen.

First off, this was a murder, no doubt.

But the original video did very briefly show the victim and killer in contact or near-contact, and two items falling from the cop’s waist area. One was the object, likely the taser, that the killer cop moved from the point where he fired to the area next to the victim. The other falls behind the cop. This happens within the first second of the two appearing on the first video.

There may have been a struggle for the taser but even if there was, there was no excuse for the killing.

Anyone notice the music playing in the background in the cop’s car? It’s called “What it’s like” by Everlast. If you’re not familiar with it check it out on YouTube:

What haunting irony.

“God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in his shoes
Then you really might know what it’s like to have to lose”

If Scorsese invented this scene, he couldn’t have made a more apt musical pick.

I don’t get why the murdering cop chased him at all. He had the guys license, he had the guys car, and he had the guys passenger.
To chase him down and kill him is utterly ridiculous.
