Discussion for article #229666
Uh…
Fire them.
There is no other viable option.
Morons.
Find another job.
I don’t understand what they meant by that remark. was it just random BS (emanating form a very dark place)?
Most women understand that most men don’t even realize how rude and childish such behavior is. They have learned from childhood to be bullies and it’s their baseline of normal. It will take a lot more time than we have to get them to stop being the way they have been raised to be. They learned it from their mothers, and their fathers, from their buddies in school and in the military, from the video games they play and the sports they watch. Their definition of themselves is bully. They do it to each other as well as to women. They even bully their boy children in a misguided effort to teach them to be tough.
It’s very sad.
In Austin, it could happen. In rural Bumfuck County, a slap on the wrist for not turning off the camera followed by a promotion would be in order.
Governor Perry added, “Boys will be boys. I’ll bet she was asking for it.”
All the negative Texas law enforcement stereotypes that you’ve ever seen or heard are unequivocally and veritably true. Apparently.
Even a relatively liberal city like Austin can have retrograde cretins on the police force.
The only logical response is to summarily fire both men, and make sure that the rest of the force gets some remedial training on the subject of rape and on the subject of proper respect for the citizenry that employs them.
Republicans, of course, would promote both men, and blame the woman.
Again…a Police Department will do what ever it has to to defend its “own” even if that means harming the public that pays them. The only fitting thing to do here is remove both of these ass holes from a position of authority…fire them.
This isn’t a single incident. Its a window into a mindset and that mindset isn’t fixed by investigations or psychobabble about police “values”. These men are the type of guys that do this and always will be.
Dear APD,
This is what happens when you don’t train your police force well.
P.S. It will also open the department up to a ton of lawsuits from victims of sexual assaults.
In any other city than Austin, I might agree. This will not go over well with the brass with APD, or with City Council. The public comments at this weeks’ Austin City Council meeting should be quite uproarious.
The real question is: Why are cops allowed to turn their cameras off? When is that a good thing?
Whenever police are accused of doing something wrong, we’re told both that the cops should be trusted because they’re trained professionals, and we should forgive them because they’re human and humans make mistakes. Naturally, these excuses are mutually exclusive, since humans who make mistakes shouldn’t be treated like infallible professionals.
And the fact that they can not only turn their cameras off but think to do so while talking points to the real issue: They’re humans who make mistakes yet want to be treated like infallible professionals by covering up their mistakes. And the reality is: Cops are people, just like everyone else and need to be treated as such.
This is going to open up a whole new can of worms for any defense lawyer worth their salt.
What’s the public to do? The criminals have guns and don’t care. The cops have guns and don’t care.
I always love the huffing and puffing from officials about “not representing our values” or “having zero tolerance policies.” What the hell do these people learn at the Academy? “This is your penis, this your gun. One is for shooting, the other for fun.” ?
What an outrageous breach of professional protocol. FIRST-turn OFF the dash cam. THEN-proceed to do whatever the fuck you want. You’re a cop, after all. Learn the rules.
I think they were implying that it was the fault of the woman for dressing in a way that they think inappropriate. It was a sad, sick and stupid comment by two very ignorant men who should know better.
I believe they were talking to themselves. Sounds like something frat boys might utter to each other.
Oops I misread the headline as “Douchecam”… Or did I?
This is a real topper to my already sad Monday: I recognize the Walgreen’s parking lot the photo was taken in. It’s not too far from my house. Sheesh! Now I has a doublesad.
