Old news. This was Friday.

On a more substantive note, Issa has been said to be the most vulnerable Republican in Congress. In other words, DEMOCRACY WORKS. Now, if we can just practice it a bit more often.

Okay, fine! stop talking about it and make it happen! jeez!

Is it true that Issa will go with a Special Prosecutor if it is Ken Starr?

Well…me too, Darrell but since Sessions has to appoint one my magic 8 ball seems to indicate ‘no way in hell…’

It is. But its still a pretty significant development. Because we are starting to see the strategy emerge for how to disassociate GOP congress critters from where they all know this is going to go.

By dumping it on a special prosecutor, they remove themselves from having to ask certain questions. They can pretend to be shocked and eventually outraged…but completely unaware…with rest of America.

All that being said, I pity whoever they appoint. We all know how the White House will react.

I thought this guys pockets, uh coffers were stuffed full last year and he moved on into oblivion, uh hiding after his failed taxpayer expense hang her game he played.
Guess I was wrong. ugh

I love it when Republicans run scared. This is why he’s talking this stuff…but with all things Issa, let’s see what he actually does.

The fucker won his election in a very Republican district by less than 1% as all can see. Not very impressive for such a presumably powerful filthy rich Rep. His grandstanding bullshit all these years has finally caught up with him.

Man, he IS running scared.

Issa wants a special prosecutor because then he wouldn’t have to do his job. He could just say “there’s a special prosecutors, we’re waiting for the results, give me more money for my next campaign.”. Because Any republican congresscritter who gets involved in an investigation (until everything is already in the papers) will either get roasted for trying to derail or roasted for trying to investigate.

Has the earth rotated off of its axis, or is this pablum?

Well, this is progress. Noting who actually said this, i still don’t hold out much hope, but he is starting to take his job seriously. If nothing else, this puts all of the political appointees, and T rump on notice that even people within their own party are willing to proceed outside the normal channels to make sure our system of democracy survives. No one i s above the law. I certainly do not like Darrell Issa. In fact, i think he embodies an ideology that acts against America’s greater common interest. Nonetheless, i am glad to hear this from him. He’s figuring out how to stay alive, and not be lumped in to the traitorous activities of those he’s supposed to investigate. Let’s hope he follows through.

Yes,

His district is less R than it used to be due to some influx of “those people” into the heart of the district. The reason it stays R is because of redistricting after the 2010 census. Consider:

[The photo won’t load. Go to https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/CA and magnify the 49th District.]

Look at Oceanside and note all the white squiggly lines from there south. That’s where the bulk of the people live. Some of it is high wealth (Encinitas and other coastal towns) and some of it is low wealth (Oceanside and east). The bare spot in the southeast is mountains. The large bare spot to the north is Camp Pendleton Marine Base with lots of empty land for training. The top end of Camp Pendleton is the top end of San Diego County and the county line for Orange County. That piece of Orange Co. where there are some more squiggly lines (roads) is the same piece where Regan had his “other home” when he was in the WH. That’s the piece that was added to Issa’s district and tips it R.

When we moved to this district in 1972 it was the end of Nixon’s term of office. The 49th was reliably R. Of course, our town had 24,000 people then and now the official number is somewhere around 94,000. Nearly half of that 94,000 is non-white. Surrounding towns have had the same increase. In 2003 when Issa first took office, our town pretty was much R. By the time we left in 2015 there was a huge turnout for Michael Moore’s movie when the local theater showed it (once). Applegate, the guy who lost by a sliver, is a retired Marine. North County is very pro-Marine then and now. Issa’s doom may be in sight. !See me jumping up and down!

Well…it’s just his district catching up with him. It seems like he’s got this big advantage, but the 49th is only R+1.

Now Applegate has already said he’s gunning for a rematch next year. So yes, Issa is scared shitless.

In '18 we will also take down a number of other CA GOP reps: new Russian citizen Dana Rohrabacher, Walters CD-45, Royce CD-39, Dennem CD-10, Knight CD-25.

I don’t really care why he wants a special prosecutor. I’m just thrilled that more Republicans are scared, angry, whatever enough that after little more than a month in office they’re already turning on their own president. Whether or not PP is impeached, it’s going to become increasingly politically impossible for him to get much of anything done legislatively. Repeatedly going around Congress with EOs is going to increasingly piss off Congress too and increase their desire to get rid of him. And if/when they finally cut him loose, there will be legions of Republican voters and media outlets who’ll be mad as hell. The chasm between the Freedom Caucus and Establishment Republicans will grow even wider as they get an earful from their constituents demanding to know why they haven’t stopped the “witch hunt” against PP. Unless something changes drastically, I don’t see how this won’t lead to disastrous consequences for the GOP.
