Discussion: Dallas Protest Organizer Condemns Shooting: Blue Lives Matter Also

Smart-- and timely-- thank you Rev Alexander, Rev Hood.
Pitch perfect compared to the wingnut responses I’ve been privy to.

Thank you, Reverends Alexander and Hood. I am glad you spoke out. I stand with you and I stand with the DART and the DPD. Every life does matter – of course it does, and by standing with the BLM movement does not mean I or anyone else intimates no other lives matter. It bares repeating to those who question this movement: Every life matters, but since statistics show that black lives are taken (by the hands of law enforcement officers across the nation) at an exponentially higher rate, it’s only fair and moral to question just why.

“We’ve got to turn to love. We have to stop shooting. We have got to turn to love,” he said. “We cannot bring about justice through violence. We cannot bring about love through violence. If we continue to turn to violence, we are going to continue to see heartache and devastation.”

I have a lot of feelings, but I have no words better than these. So I will just say “Amen.”

There are many like this man. Even black people in their own communities realize they need the police to protect them but they dont want them killing them indiscriminately, There was just a huge coming together of clergy of all kind in Dallas this morning. If police departments do a better job in their hiring and rooting out the racists in their midst and then prosecuting the ones who murder innocent civilians then maybe we can start there,

ALL live matter not just Black and Blue

Love versus hate. The choice is yours, America.

I think both responses are heartfelt and appropriate. We all have a right to peacefully protest. The police were shot protecting the protesters in the exercise of their right to peacefully protest. The shooter violated the protesters rights as he shot the officers doing their duty. We should all on the same side today. We should all be grieving for the Dallas officers.

Rudy just tried some ‘hate lite’ on MSNBC blaming BLM and Governor Dayton’s use of the word “racism”…

This condemnation is articulate and heartfelt. It nails the issues and soothes the mind. This is a mark of leadership.

This is in direct contrast to the soulless, vengeful outrage and anger expressed by Paul Ryan, the incompetent Speaker of the House. Several conservative and Republican members of the House have issued divisive race-baiting comments.

Senseless cycles of violence cannot be ended without determination and hopefulness.

I’m Black and aren’t I a “real” American?

You’ll have to ask Sarah Palin or Joe Walsh about that. I don’t make such distinctions.

facepalm You just HAD to show the world how tonedeaf and entitled you are, didn’t you?

Non-violence doesn’t happen accidentally. You have to work at it. Just invoking Martin Luther King’s name every now and then is not good enough. Getting mad and shouting people down, making safe spaces for yourself on campus, grabbing the mic, not good enough. Saying your protest was non-violent after the cops are killed is not good enough. Non-violence is not even mentioned on this page:

http://blacklivesmatter.com/11-major-misconceptions-about-the-black-lives-matter-movement/

MLK is only mentioned as being beloved but that movement being flawed. Snap out of it, we’re running out of time.

“We echo the words of President Obama yesterday when he stated, that because black lives matter, it does not mean blue lives do not matter,”

Well said!

Would that Rev. Alexander and Rev. Hood be the spokespeople for the BLM movement. Founder, Alicia Garza is not a good representative of what is - at heart - a very justified response to prevalent, systemic racism and outright murder.
