Discussion: Dallas Police Headquarters Comes Under Armed Attack, Explosion Reported

Discussion for article #237421

The word on MSNBC is that the guy is upset about losing custody of his son. This should help his situation. Nothing says good parenting like trying to kill a bunch of cops.

The suspect is holed up in a Jack in the Box. Looks like death either way for him.

Early reports say it’s possible the guy attacked the headquarters with automatic rifle fire and placed bombs there because he was upset about being accused by the police of being a—wait for it—terrorist. But that’s unpossible! A heavily armed crazy white American is, pretty much by definition, a tyranny-fighting patriot.

I cannot find a single reference to the race of the perpetrators. Which pretty much assures me they are NOT Black, but white. And the fact that the police have not riddled the van with automatic weapon fire the moment they had it stopped assures me this is probably the case, too. If the occupants were back, the van and its occupants would have been ventilated and reduced to a tin can of Swiss cheese already. That’s just how things work in post-racial America, where no one who tells N*ggas to go back to the projects, or pulls guns on Black teenagers, has a racist bone in their body.

Well, that’s what the Second Amendment is for, isn’t it? For citizens to defend themselves against a tyrannical government? That’s why the NRA wants every citizen to have a gun (volume of gun sales has nothing to do with it). Apparently, however, a conflict of interest arises when one man’s law enforcement becomes another’s tyranny. What’s the solution? More guns, of course. An armed society is a shootout waiting to happen.

Equally sparse on details though.

Greg Palast had it right, and he still does when he called America an Armed Madhouse.

Being Texas I’m surprised he doesn’t have rocket launchers.

Or RPGs at minimum.

And an armored van with gun ports.

I am guessing he didn’t armor the engine compartment.

Well, you know…until they opened fire on the Police Department, they were just people expressing their Second Ammendment Rights.

I wonder if anyone sees how this is exactly the PROBLEM!

Abbot will blame this on Obama in 5…4…3…2…1…

The reason for the guys actions are irrelevant. His choice on how to handle it is relevant. How much you wanna bet he pays a bit to much attention to second amendment chatter and takes folks like Jones and Beck a bit too seriously?

He probably agrees ā€œthe government is the problemā€ and we need ā€œsecond amendment solutionsā€ for that problem. Now who told him that?

Just spoke to a friend whose loft faced the scene and who witnessed the entire attack. Nothing to report that hasn’t already been reported by DPD; residents have been sheltering in place since midnight, and the entire street remains on lockdown from her account.

During the attack, police fired on the van from two directions using long guns, but were unable to disable it before it fled.

It’s a miracle no civilians were killed in the crossfire; in addition to the South Side on Lamar lofts, there’s a NYLO hotel; a popular craft cocktail spot; a sports/bar restaurant; and a very large music venue (Gilley’s) in the immediate area, all usually very crowded on a Friday night.
