“While we are worrying about terrorists, we’re living in a terrorist society amongst us Americans today.”
Amen!
Brilliant. I hope this kind of smart politics has legs.
And you folks thought TX was hopeless.
Tena tells us otherwise and she’s right!
“Republicans asked for patience until the facts of the attack were known.”
Here are some facts:
I wonder how many more school shootings will take place by convention time?
For a little extra credit for Hizzoner I’ll mention it’s my understanding that the contracts for these conventions are arranged years in advance, with big deposits and all that. The city loses money if the convention doesn’t happen, and could have to pay individual businesses for their losses. It’s not a casual suggestion, it’s a pretty big statement.
One more is one too many.
It is.
I don’t know what’s likely to happen. I know what I want to happen but I also know the city has liability to the NRA if they break a contract.
So it remains to be seen what will happen but this is where we are politically in Dallas Co.
Where are they holding it, the 6th floor of the book depository at Dealey Plaza??
Those were the good times. You could buy a rifle mail-order and stand up for freedom with it.
Let them have their little ammosexual shin-dig, just have every schoolkid in Texas out front protesting…
Just as a literal statement it’s remarkable. I imagine the convention will come off as planned. But I guess he won’t be delivering the traditional welcoming remarks or anything. ![]()
The NRA is frequently criticized in the aftermath of mass shootings, as the organization is known for funding and awarding ratings to politicians who support legislation that favors gun owners’ rights.
They are also damn tasteless thugs. They are a world-wide terrorist group with non-profit tax status. I can’t remember which shooting, it was during the Obama Admin, they gave a press conference at the Press Club in D.C. Then they had armed guards at the event between the press and the speaker. They asked to be there!

This is on their international efforts (I know many commenters here already know a lot of this, but it’s good to repeat) 2:
The NRA’s international lobbying activities make it a de facto ally of U.S. arms manufacturers—the world’s largest exporters of small arms—with U.S. exports totaling $706 million in 2009.1
In addition to those important legal firearms exports, the U.S. is also one of the principal sources of the black market international trade in weapons. For example, it is estimated that almost half of gun murders in Canada are committed with American handguns smuggled into the country illegally. In Toronto, police say that approximately 70 percent of guns seized in crimes are handguns smuggled from the United States.4
In 2009, a U.S. General Accounting Office report on firearms trafficking stated that 87 percent of firearms seized by Mexican authorities over the preceding five years originated in the United States.5 To the NRA, increased efforts by the U.S. government to fight this illegal arms smuggling were seen as a backdoor attempt to restrict gun ownership. “For American gun owners, the battle will be to make sure that politicians […] do not use Mexico as an excuse to sacrifice our Second Amendment rights,” the organization said in a statement.6
It’s more than a shot across the bow.
There are probably some little things the city can do to make it less visible or welcoming. I second the children’s anti-gun march. Which I would bet a nickle would go much better than the Children’s Crusade of 1212.
Steve Stockman’s old campaign office might be available.
Caraway said during the press conference. “At the end of the day,
we need to connect the dots. The NRA needs to step up to the plate,
and they need to show leadership. We should not allow people to
possess assault rifles and weapons.”
uhh oh …
Looks like a ’ negative ’ rating’s on the way ! … soo SAD ! —
