Discussion for article #244217

Anything this man did could not have been done as effectively without the assistance of corporate entities and individuals who, today, are assisting others in similar crimes…

Charges and convictions are bad for business. Got to go along to get along. You want to make it in showbiz or not??

That’s what I said.

Cosby may be a scumbag but you really DO have to be careful playing “what are the odds?” when weighing allegations against wealthy celebrities. As with Clinton or Michael Jackson or others, lots of smoke doesn’t necessarily imply a fire.

A friend of mine had a consensual hook up with him years ago. They assured each other they wouldn’t tell their spouses.

@Rjab
What you’ve said goes to why most women don’t report sexual assault. They’re up against a system which will ask them how they allowed it to happen even though it’s taken a lot of courage to go as far as making the accusation. But Cosby also became a hypocrite in his later years and lost support he might have had when he started telling young black men to pull up their pants and in general to shape up.

Poor man…quite the lothario not so long ago, now reduced to using a cane instead of wielding one? Perhaps two assistants now hold his arms and guide him as he runs through his pattern?
For a blind man, I noticed him meeting the eyes of reporters and mouthing the word, “No,” as he walked into the Courthouse…
It’s not merely Cosby, but the whole money/fame/power meat grinder that we pretend is something nicer.

I thought Cosby would get away with never being charged as he was such an old man. But when he started suing people last week, I thought, if he’s still young enough to sue people, he young enough to stand up to the charges against him. Let justice be done.

Since this final tragic act of Cosby’s life has been playing out I can’t help, but wish that Cosby would find a way to confront this despicable part of his character and elevate the entire discussion to something much more meaningful for all involved.

He still remains a ground breaking actor that has done many positive things with his celebrity, but as we are all increasingly finding out he is a serial rapist, no doubt enabled by those closest to him - professionally or otherwise. I can’t imagine drugging and raping that many women without numerous people hiding the mess for this long.

I would prefer Cosby confront it himself, because it would be better for him as no one to my knowledge has done so publicly before, but also I think for us.

Why is that?

I don’t want Cosby simplified to a reprehensible, vile person, which is a facet of who he is. I want this to promote a robust discussion about how all us humans to varying extents are a mix of good and bad and allow that complexity to be exposed.

Then maybe when women (or anyone for that matter) are raped we as a society will be more open to listening to them and in general not sweep the nastiness under the rug for so long. Yes I’m thinking of you Catholic Church and US Military and college campuses and the NFL and all the other places that we humans behave badly towards others, but particularly men towards women and children.

Mrs. Dearest and I were just discussing this morning how in the world an intelligent, successful man rationalizes this kind of evil behavior. Did he really think he was just “womanizing”? Did he know what he was doing was wicked, but couldn’t help himself and felt immense remorse and shame after each incident? Did he feel like he should get help or did he feel like he “deserved” these women because of his fame and fortune? The way his humanity always shone through his humor and infused his public persona is a puzzle to me, because his behavior in private contradicts all of that. He must be a consummate actor.

Agree or disagree (and I personally agree), you can’t deny that it’s a powerful and impactful front page.

This is basically like in the US today. Now that he is useless Corporate America he can be thrown to the wolves.
