When is enough going to be enough.
This is beyond tragic; these poor souls. They should’ve left the country if that was at all possible. To see the continuance of mass shootings and nothing done to stem it, was simply too much. God damn the NRA, the gun manufacturers, and the GOP to hell.
And instead of implementing sensible gun control and funding education and mental health resources, the GOeffingP wants to spend billions on a border wall.
To see New Zealand’s government respond strongly to the mass shooting there with weapons bans and understand that our government will never step up must be bringing new depths of despair to the Sandy Hook families and the survivors and families of so many other shooting victims. Our lack of response to this terrible disaster has led to a long unraveling. There has been no resolution, no changes in gun laws, no national consensus. There is no way to cauterize this wound without changes in gun laws, and the slaughter continues with each mass shooting. How can the nation heal without change? It can’t.
A side anecdote. Two years ago I visited family in Connecticut. At that time someone known to both of us was travelling to Turkey, and an in-law commented that she worried about our mutual friend traveling to such a dangerous part of the world. I was fricking gobsmacked. She lives 20 minutes from Newtown! I observed that she lived 20 minutes from Newtown, but was worried about travel to Turkey? There was no comprehension, no understanding that suburban America is as dangerous a place in the world as almost anywhere else in the world, if not more so. I think that is indicative. Americans continue to not fully comprehend that the gun laws in this country are third world. We continue to feel that other countries are much more dangerous than our own. I don’t get it.
During their lifetime, my parents lost two of us to natural causes. I’ve seen what it can do to parents.
I cannot imagine losing a child to a madman or what it must do to a parent.
For the NRA, their Congressional enablers, and the deplorable GOP base…never.
When is the stance of those people ( a minority) going to be enough for the rest of us.
What a tragic week. Poor, poor man. My heart breaks for him and his family, as well as for the kids who couldn’t handle surviving past Parkland in this country.
I’m heartbroken for these families. They’ve busted their asses trying to get something done, hitting every GOP brick wall. NZ comes around as proof of leadership and good policy priorities. I’d feel broken too.
In all fairness, Trump did have an index card after Parkland.

I understand why he might do this. I wish with every fiber of my being I did not or could not understand, but I do.
I wish peace to his surviving friends and family. It wasn’t your fault. Some things simply feel too unbearable to live with.
