I’m not Plucky or other area expert, but I’d read the tea leaves slightly differently: Bevin barely squeaked in, with very tepid national GOP support. Hence, I’d posit that this subsequent feud’s internecine nastiness is going to hurt Bevin’s “agenda” going forward, more than Beshear’s reputation in the rear-view mirror.
“Beshear has not been blameless. Ten days after Bevin was elected, Beshear held a news conference criticizing Bevin’s plans to dismantle Kentucky’s health insurance exchange and replace its expanded Medicaid program, both cornerstones of Beshear’s legacy.”
Ok…where is the blame, though? Its not just Beshear’s legacy…its for the benefit of the entire population of Kentucky! So criticizing this idiot on those issues and even started up non profits to continue to fight him on those issues seems entirely blameless to me.
Typical Tea Partier, attacking in a vicious, personal way, using scorched earth tactics. When people respond in kind, their butt gets hurt and they scream, whine and cry that people are being mean.
It’s always fun to take a flame thrower to everything, until it your house that’s on fire.
The Kentucky gubernatorial oath of office:
I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this Commonwealth, and be faithful and true to the Commonwealth of Kentucky so long as I continue to be a citizen thereof, and that I will faithfully execute, to the best of my ability, the office of Governor according to law; and I do further solemnly swear that since the adoption of the present Constitution, I, being a citizen of this state, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons within this state, nor out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, nor aided or assisted any person thus offending, so help me God*. [Emphasis added.]
It’s a holdover from the (late!) 19th century when Kentucky still had a dueling problem, but there’s a reason they’ve never gotten around to changing it, people.
Oh, and here’s another piece of the Kentucky political tradition. Only state to ever have a sitting governor assassinated. That governor’s history of gunfights with political opponents being one of the reasons for the addition of the dueling provision to the oath.
Bevin = “Christian” bully (wink, wink)
We can only hope. He’s a pinhead if there ever was one. Just dreadful.
31% turn out on that election…sigh. He’s a one termer for sure, KY has no recall law but it looks like he’s going to get bogged down from every angle possible. He could be impeached but that won’t happen with R-majority in Senate. Trying to hang on to Dem House in Nov. or we’re really in deep shit.
Good catch Mr. History, not many know that. My guess is someone with connections to L&N RR did it. Kind of brazen Kochishness. Violent times those days after Thuh Warah.
“This has got the makings of a real Hatfield and McCoy feud,” former Democratic Gov. John Y. Brown Jr. said. "I don’t think it’s good for Kentucky."
So true. Other than a great cleaving of the Earth's crust, swallowing the state whole into the bowels of the planet's center, what is the alternative?
Why do you say that? Just because the L&N handed out thousands of round-trip tickets to Frankfort on Inauguration Day to heavily-armed Republican mountain feudists? Such a nasty suspicious mind.
Exactly, in no way does this qualify as both sides do it.
This is the KY Congress idea of creatin’ jobs?..for lawyers.
Why is TPM embedding that awful Larry King interview w/ Larry Flynt on every page with the sound turned on. I will be avoiding articles on the site until this noise is eliminated.
"He then ‘leavened’ his December inaugural address " , “Leavened”? Really? Salted maybe. Leavened implies “improved”.
Yet another reason to never set foot in Kentucky.
So…
- the governor, in his official capacity, makes personal attacks on the former governor
- the former governor, in his private capacity, makes policy attacks on the current governor
See? Both sides are behaving badly!
The KY pols are just now getting to long division…Wonder if they know they’re using ‘turrist’ numerals every day?
Exactly. Personal attacks or charges against Beshear vs criticizing Bevin the Tea Bagger’s plans for jacking up Kentucky’s functioning health insurance exchange. Yeah, same thing, exactly.
And since when is a deceptive breitbard video of an empty chamber, chair, whatever, insinuating dereliction of duty when none exists, scathing? Scathing is when you take some ignorant bloviating teabagger points and positions and plans and tear them to shreds factual point by factual point. When you expose Trumps lies and baseless claims as the steaming pile they are, that’s scathing.
When you make an ignorant ahole look like the ahole they are, then show them how ignorant and stupid and wrong they are as a follow-up, and how empty and specious their gods are, that’s scathing.
A jackass flinging lies and insults is not scathing.
No, but spending taxpayer money on building a replica ark and creationist theme park are.
