Dear Andrew Cuomo,

Might I suggest your next purchase from Amazon?

Amazon ran away because they are not NYC tough enough. They want the critical eye of the areas workforce helping to move them forward, but they don’t want the same critical eyes on them.

Bil Maher nailed it
"Amazon picked two places that didn’t need them at all,” he said. “Bezos, you’re worth $130 billion, take one for the team. Stop playing cities off against one another and help a dying one come back to life.”

Having an Amazon headquarters seems like a very mixed bag. It brings jobs, but tends to put demands on local traffic and push out current residents if it is in a poorer area. Ironically, it also makes life miserable for anyone living close by. The biggest problem is that to get it, a community apparently has to basically bribe the company (with big bags of money that could be spent more productively), and to look the other way whenever Amazon wants to do something not quite on the up and up. It is a little like hiring someone to be an abusive spouse.

The second that someone asked them to define what those jobs would look like and how their presence could actually help the city, Amazon ran. Throwing more money at them isn’t going to fix that problem.

Very true, the whole Cuomo clan takes anything NYC/Downstate as very important and will work their azzes off to achieve. They, however, say FU to the rest of NY. Actually both REPUGs and DIMs do that and have done so since at least the 50’s. Just that DIMs have on occasion, rare occasions, helped Upstate.

Very true, and they have done so when placing their distribution centers. Once someone asks about the 1000s of temp positions they chose another nearby location. Did that in Chattanooga, however, Chat buckled exactly as they did for VW. VW has more temp positions working the assembly lines than permanent.

It really sucks when the vocal minority that upsets your plans also happens to be the people most affected by the proposal. If this deal was so important why didn’t you invite those stakeholders to the table during the negotiations? It seems painting yourself as the indispensable man in NY politics was more important than making sure the deal happened. Now you look less indispensable and desperate.
