This will be very interesting. You just know Colbert has a plan

Colbert can handle any blowhard. He was great at handling Chris Matthews without managing to get any of his spittle on himself while doing so. And there have been a few others.

You and I are in total agreement. Chris Matthews makes me nuts with his interruptions but even more so when any day you just don’t know where he stands. He has got to be the most conflicted guy on TV (especially claiming to be a democrat)

I don’t think he’s personally conflicted chammy. I think he’s an equal opportunity opportunist when it comes to siding with either party, especially whenever inside beltway CW rears its ugly head. Sadly, he supplies much of that beltway CW which is usually such bullshit. I think he goes whichever way the wind blows depending on how he wants to ping his ratings. He’s a survivor, not that he deserves to be, but he strikes me as the kind of person that would walk all over his grandma or stab his best friend in the back if it meant he got in good with “the right people”.

This should be deliciously interesting. With the exception of Obama, Trump is the only politician who could be a successful stand-up comic. He has no other qualifications, but he has genuine comedic talent. Trump v. Colbert could be like Frazier v. Ali.

Trump’s usual MO is to follow any confrontation the next day with a series of tweets and soundbites attacking the most laughable weaknesses of the opponent. But anything he launches at Colbert falls right into Colbert’s MO - weaving people’s soundbytes into his presentation. It could go on for many rounds.

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh…When is Career Politician, Union-Made Harley Rider Scott Walker going to be on Colbert’s show?!? That’ll be a popcorn, Mike n Ikes AND Good n Plentys night! Hypothetically, of course. Wait, there are no hypotheticals.

He didn’t have much trouble with O’Reilly, who tried to bully him and completely failed. He’ll run rings around Trump.

I’ve already heard enough Hump, Cruz horse puckey not going to watch. Hump will scream over Colbert and it will be a waste of time.

I think what Rump will do is actually compliment Colbert. He tends to do that when he’s in the presence of someone he has a problem with and doesn’t want to be shown up as an idiot. Once that show is over however, he’ll make some kind of bullshit remark about how Colbert is just a third-rate comedian or some such shit. He’ll probably tweet it.

Your right!

I agree - but then Colbert will use this “late hit” as ammunition. Whenever any of his rivals attack him, Trump successfully uses the attack as ammunition … but that’s also what Colbert does. Trump specializes in telling the ugly truth about people that no one with any class would mention - Jeb is a boring, entitled, emasculated wimp, etc. How can Jeb come back on this without reinforcing the essentially accurate description? But no matter what you say about Colbert, he’ll turn it into some hilarious riff.

Obama does the same thing every year at the WH Press Dinner - he uses the stuff about him being Muslim and born in Kenya to make his critics look like idiots.

I used my crystal ball this time to predict the future even though he’s already sooo utterly predictable.

If you’re expecting more than a light jab or two, then you’re going to be disappointed. I’m happy that Colbert appears to want to continue dissecting the bizarre world of American politics, but he’s no longer in a position to skewer his guests or make them look ridiculous, even if their name is Donald Trump.

If and when he becomes as established as Letterman, perhaps then he could get away with some barbs, but this is CBS’s flagship late night TV show, not Comedy Central.

I believe you’re wrong on this one. They’ve given Colbert a long leash and they wanted him badly because of his political acumen. Whether he’ll use that same method is still up in the air but Jon Stewart is one of the producers of Colbert’s show and that can’t be happenstance. They want what Comedy Central had. That’s why they hired him, hired them both.

Wow - I didn’t realize Stewart was a producer of Colbert’s show!

Why?!

He was also an exec producer of the Colbert Report.

I find Colbert on network TV to be a shadow of his comedic self. The writers don’t measure up to those on CC. The skit he did with Scarlett Johansson was just inane and I’ll not be watching in future.
