Discussion: Cruz Takes Iowa, Beats Out Evangelical Darling Carson

Discussion for article #243501

I-O-Wah? ā€¦lol!

Wondering how much of Trumpā€™s lack of leading the polling in Iowa is entirely due to calling Iowa stupid?

Ted Cruz earns 24% support when likely caucusgoers are asked who they will support in the
Republican contest. This marks a clear lead over Donald Trump (19%), Marco Rubio (17%), and Ben Carson 13%). Jeb Bush stands at 6% and Rand Paul is at 4%, while Carly Fiorina and John Kasich earn 3% each. None of the other six candidates tested in the poll draws more than 2% support.

JEB? 6% !

Fabulous. Iowa will maintain its status of top wanker state after all. Kudos!

We saw this last time. Every platitude-spouting dipshit will rise to the top at one point or another.

Today is Raphaelā€™s turn.

Aw fuck.

This is part of my nightmare. That Cruz wins Iowa (ordinarily no big dealā€“evangelicals always win Iowa in GOP primaries), but heā€™s also closing in on Trump in NH. If he wins BOTH, he will have a nice tailwind, and might be unstoppable in this ultra-crazy primary.

Then, if he reaches the general, the mainstream media will not portray him as the hard-right radical he really is. Theyā€™ll act as if heā€™s a perfectly reasonable candidate. (The whole false equivalency thing.) Shit, his crazy wonā€™t even be mentioned.

Itā€™s like Romneyā€™s religion. Not one journalist asked Romney about how his religion considers black people ā€œloathsomeā€, and that they were made to be loathsome precisely so that whites wouldnā€™t want to fuck them. Considering he was running against a man who was the product of a white person fucking a black one, Iā€™d say thatā€™s a pretty pertinent topic.

But nope.

Ted Cruz shutting down government? Wonā€™t be mentioned.

Cruz HATING the government, yet still, inexplicably, wanting to be the leader of it? No mention of that, either.

All of the horrible things he has said and done? Nothing.

He will be the equivalent to Hillary Clinton.

yeahā€¦ nominate a TRUE ā€˜conservativeā€™ threatening to bomb the crap out of our enemiesā€¦

Extremism in the Defense of Liberty Is No Vice

anyone remember how well that worked out for Barry Goldwater?

40 percent of Iowa Republican caucusgoers feel certain theyā€™ve been probed by aliens.

Last time, didnā€™t everyone win Iowa? Isnā€™t Iowa like the ā€œParticipation Ribbonā€ of primary/caucus states?

As Iowa goes so goes Mike Huckabee (or something).

Iowa: Tthe Cradle of Hogs

Trump better hurry up and call Iowans stupid (or something stronger) once more.

Agreed, there is nothing to rejoice over. Cruz is not Trump ā€“ he will disguise himself to appear reasonable and the media will play along. I donā€™t even want a remote chance this vile pig could be elected president. I hope oppo research is digging up some potent stuff. Use is now before he gets any foothold and the evangelicals ā€œforgiveā€ him.

Iā€™m glad not one journalist asked Romney about that. Romneyā€™s father fought for inclusion of black folks as whole personā€™s in the Mormon faith, and he won. I wouldnā€™t have wanted Romney held responsible for the batshittery of a religion he was born into anymore than itā€™s fair to blame all Muslims for the actions of some Muslims.

Frankly, this poll makes a whole lot of sense to me. Ted Cruz is really the perfect candidate for Iowa. He might even be the perfect candidate for the Republican Party. He has all the bombast, offensiveness, sheer greasiness, dishonesty, and is as generally disgusting as Trump. He just wraps his hateful rhetoric in flowery words and patriotism. But even more than Trump, there is something so unsettling, so unappealing, so incredibly viscerally loathsome about Cruz, the way he talks, his gestures, his voice, etc. He is the candidate I worry about the least, and heā€™s also the candidate most suited for the most rabid of the Republican base.

Pretty much as Cruz has planned and executed accordingly. So, not surprising. But itā€™s horrifying.

The guy is no stupid. He is therefore dangerous.

You really ought to watch the most recent episode of The Daily Show. I think the reason itā€™s taken so long for Cruz to rise in the polls is because despite the fact that heā€™s pretty much been exactly the Senator the Republican base wants, despite the fact that heā€™s able to check off every last box, they still havenā€™t taken to him. I think thatā€™s because even they donā€™t like him.
