I would just like to point out that Texas Governor Greg Abbott has already visited Cuba to speak on behalf of the rice industry in Texas, the first state to normalize business relations with Cuba and Castro. Donât remember Senator Cruz speaking out on that visit.
Ted, you may not realize it but the Castro Bros. have run Cuba for a very long time (since 1959). And one of the necessary things in state craft is you gotta deal with stuff as it is, not how you want it to be in fantasyland.
Rubio and Cruz would like you to think that their families left Cuba because they are such staunch anti-Communists. In reality, they left because they had flourished under the equally corrupt Batista and saw that the gravy train was pulling out of the station.
This is so typical of Republicans. They continue to support a 60 year old policy that has been failing for decades. Like their other failed policies that never work like trickle down economics, and tax cuts pay for them selves. They just keep promoting them even though they have never worked.
Cruz isnât much dfiferent then Fidel was, itâs time to get rid of the dictators we have in our own country and we need to start with Ted Cruz. By the way isnât cruz we donât need a candian speaking for America. No pun intended Canada.
Because after nearly 50 years of rule thereâs some question as to whether the regime is âlegitimateâ?
Heâs complaining that political prisoners in Cuba now know that we donât have their back? As though we ever had their back, as though establishing a real relationship with Cuba wonât put us in a better position to pressure for release of political prisoners and as though prisoners in Cuba are some sort of national interest of ours.
Whatâs particularly aggravating about this is that Cruz is a smart guy and must know perfectly well that his arguments are ridiculous. I remain undecided as to whether heâs completely cynical or a true believerâperhaps portions of both. I canât see how this helps Cruz in his contest with Trump. Were Trump to take the position that, of course we should open up relations and trade with Cubaâafter nearly 50 years weâre not going to bring down the Castro government by continuing to refuse to recognize them and we can open up a good market form U.S. companiesâmy guess is that he would appeal to far more of the current rightwing than Cruzâs position. On this issue, as perhaps on a number of other issues, Cruz thinks that opposing Obama is essential even if it means opposing a sensible policy that most of the voters agree with.
I keep forgettingt; less than 25 years after denouncing the leadership and political ideology of a certain densely populated Asian country, which President was it that went over to that country, hob-nobbed with the leadership, had dinner with them and recognized it? Was it LBJ? Gerald Ford? Jimmy Carter?
This is part of what an historic visit to Cuba looks like, and as important 62% of Americans support ending the trade embargo. Why are we getting Cruz instead?
