Discussion: Cruz Criticizes Wife's Firm, Goldman Sachs, Over 'Crony Capitalism'

Ya but Carnival Cruz wants to render the special privileges unspecial by giving them to every rich person, not by limiting the cronies in any meaningful way.

I wonder if Heidi is a true believer or just along for the ride? I mean, anyone who gets to her level at GS probably ain’t a doormat - so if she isn’t a true believer, and Cruz keeps spewing bullshit that harms her career prospects, I can very easily imagine divorce papers in Ted’s post-primary future.

This is dangerous man. Not because of the revulsion he evokes from those who are aware of his mendacity and outright megalomania–there are many, both in public and among people we all know, who spur similar feelings.

But, in the case of Cruz, he provides pleasure for stunted people whose ignorance is unfortunately matched by their determination to participate in the political process. And that has a number of negative outcomes, some of which could actually be harmful.

So he criticizes GS after the wife takes a paid leave and GS terminates her (and subsequently his) insurance…

I think the dumbass deadender base is about 29 percent. It might seem like 1/2 if you are over 60 and white.

I’d like to start by gratefully acknowledging Ted Cruz for the entertainment value he adds to our lives.

That said, if you think Goldman Sachs is sweating this kind of ā€œcriticismā€ from a U.S. Senator, especially one like Cruz, you’re crazy. I’d say they scripted that remark themselves, except I think that if they had, they’d probably have turned the ā€œpopulist firebrandā€ rhetoric up a notch from just ā€œoh, there’s some good and some bad.ā€

I think if Goldman Sachs had their way, he’d be tearing them a new one every day. He’s worth more to them when he can introduce S.B. 123, ā€œAn Act To Give Control of the Federal Reserve to Goldman Sachs,ā€ by saying, ā€œNobody’s been harder on GS than me, but darned if they aren’t the right people to control all the money in the universe.ā€

I think he’s angry they made her go on unpaid leave. Seriously. I don’t think they expected it.

Cruz; 100% politics without the underlying political past to back him up.

While enjoying all the benefits of his wives stock options and 401k.

According to his website, Cruz Supports a full repeal of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. He better change his website because it shows him being obviously pro Wall Street. Nothing he supports jumps out as being pro little guy or middle class. His position on issues:

Supports a full audit the Federal Reserve
Supports a full repeal of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank)
Supports Right to Work
Supports significant cuts to the federal budget and entitlement reform
Supports a Balanced Budget Amendment
Supports a simplified, single-rate tax system
Opposes all tax increases
Supports an audit of all federal agencies to reform or abolish them
Supports a full repeal of Obamacare
Won’t vote in favor of any bill which is not explicitly constitutional

Indeed, Ted is introducing legislation soon to end subsidies and special benefits to all corporations and businesses other than those developing clean energy, and he’s also proposing the elimination of all tax breaks for the 1%.

More than likely, it’s a statement for the base and GS was told before hand he would be playing that song. More appropriate to have her off the payroll, for optics, but if he becomes president (dear dog NO!) or remains a senator, GS will higher her back in a second for the influence. Has he done anything other than make this comment to attempt to reform wall street or has he done everything to weaken regulations?

This guy makes me wanna barf. There is nothing in that clip they have here where he bothered to answer a straight question with a straight answer. He’s a slimy, arrogant stinkbomb in a pool of fetid hypocrites all vying for top dog. I hope they put the screws to this guy. He deserves no less. And Mark Halperin is still a useless, sycophant for the cult of Republicanism that there ever could be. What a waste of an interview by these two flacks.

When I first head this silly rwnj talking point Binky from the mouth of Dumbass Barbie from Wasilla I thought, OK, this is some iteration of the previous"no earmark" stupidity or lets let the Dems save the global capitalist banking system from freezing, we’ll standing back and swing brickbats. Besides being a shiny new rwnj go to talking point (see Binky, supra) and no more than an all purpose anti-BO grock by what moral sanction does Sara Palin claim to wield this shibboleth in the American political arena against any Dem while speaking as a member of the party of Cleveland, Hanna, Taft, Meese and Gingrich? One might cut Sara some slack because she is so totally ignorant, stupid and unaware, but to hear this crap from her "younger brother- you know, the ā€œsmart oneā€. Good grief. JM opines that Ted Palin is a complete asshole and now I would suggest that a big slice of cow pie Ted is rank opportunism.
To paraphrase Laura Bush: ā€œWho is going to protect the children?ā€

Hmmmm, I wasn’t left with that impression reading the gushing, supportive comments of those young Liberty U students interviewed after the Cruz speech the other day. Assuming people younger than 60 are too progressive, intelligent or attuned to the Tea Party’s craziness to fall for their lunacy assumes too much. Many (most?) people have as a component of their personality some fear, prejudice or hatred of something or someone. Cruz needs only to appeal to one of those in a person to possibly gain their allegiance. Do you fear/hate gays, immigrants, foreigners, Muslims, liberals, Democrats, feminists, the Federal government, taxes, regulations, public schools, atheists, intellectuals, science, unions, the ACA, government assistance programs. the EPA, pacifists, the East coast, the West coast, etc? Picking any one of those like a scab might draw you to the Cruz camp. What percent of the electorate possesess a nearly pathological fear/hate of at least one of the aforementioned? I’ll say a huge percentage does.

Kinder, Kuche, Kirche is in Heidi’s future.

She managed portfolios larger than $40 million from her work at home Houston penthouse apartment. ā€œBarefoot and pregnantā€ isn’t her wheelhouse.

Heidi Cruz, 42, works as a managing director at the investment banking firm Goldman Sachs in Houston, according to her LinkedIn profile. She graduated with a master’s degree in business from Harvard and got her undergraduate degree at Claremont McKenna College.

According to Bloomberg.com, Heidi Cruz is planning to take an unpaid leave from Goldman to help her husband’s campaign.

Managing director is the firm’s second-highest rank, according to Bloomberg. She works as the regional head of Goldman’s Houston office in the private wealth-management division, which serves accounts with larger than $40 million with the firm. She was promoted to that position in 2013 after working as a vice president for seven years.

Heid Cruz told the New York Times in 2013, ā€œI think it works really well for our family for us both to have careers, and I know what my commitments are to Goldman. I think it’s also really good for our girls to have me at home with them.ā€

Well, if they didn’t, then he really isn’t ready to run. At all. The dynamics of having a wife working on Wall Street, bringing home the bacon, while trying to pitch yourself as the Champion of the Trailer Park…er, I meant Tea Party (get those mixed up sometimes), is horrendous and not marketable.

And while GS loves them some inside influence, they don’t really want to deal with the publicity of having a managing partner married to a guy running for President…that sort of exposure incites those pesky reporters to ask questions…LOTS of questions, that are just better left alone.

So it should have been obvious from both sides, that she was going to have to, at the very least, take a leave of absence.

Now, the more interesting point here is…if Cruz really was caught by surprise, what sort of skeletons did he leave hanging around in his closet in his rush to declare? The type of skeletons that most candidates ensure are either buried very deep or pulverized and scattered to the winds. I know that there are still some unanswered questions about a college roommate and investments in Jamaica out there…

The students were going to fined $10 a head if they failed to show up. Anyway we are talking about Liberty University, home of the fighting homophobic xtians. Cruz is an arrogant asshole. He doesn’t pass the one really important test all Americans have for their Presidential candidates. Nobody would like to drink a beer with him. Think back to all the Presidents in your lifetime–hell in everybody’s lifetime–except for Nixon, they were all likable. The average Joe would love to go to dinner with them.

Its purely for optics. And if reality imploded and he did win, the leave of absence becomes permanent. No way that a republican president is going to have FLOTUS working. Nor do I think GS would really want the increased scrutiny that comes from having a managing partner sleeping in the White House. Wife of a Senator they can deal with, but FLOTUS puts a great big target on their backs, that they don’t want.
