Discussion: Cruz Calls Sessions' Meeting With Russian Ambassador A ‘Nothing Burger’

Nothing to see here

– The Wall Street Journal, following The Post’s report, added that “U.S. investigators have examined contacts … Sessions had with Russian officials during the time he was advising” Trump’s campaign. “The outcome of the inquiry, and whether it is ongoing, wasn’t clear,” per Carol E. Lee, Christopher S. Stewart, Rob Barry and Shane Harris. “The contacts were being examined as part of a wide-ranging U.S. counterintelligence investigation into possible communications between members of Mr. Trump’s campaign team and Russian operatives.” Three other nuggets:

A spokeswoman told the Journal that the AG wasn’t aware that his communications have been under investigation until being contacted by the press.
The inquiry, focused on contacts Sessions had “while serving as Mr. Trump’s foreign-policy adviser in the spring and summer of 2016,” is being pursued by the FBI, Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency and Treasury Department.
“The FBI’s role in the investigation into Mr. Sessions’ conversations left the agency ‘wringing its hands’ about how to proceed, said one person familiar with the matter.”

I’d trust Katrina Pierson more than you, Senator Cruz.

Sure, it was a nothingburger. So why lie about it under oath?

Ted Cruz…you know, I’d actually forgotten about him. Talk about a walking nothing-burger.

If that’s the best defense Sessions has, he’s done.

Remember this:

The 35 Russian diplomats being expelled are “intelligence operatives”, Obama said. The state department has declared them “persona non grata” and they will be given 72 hours to leave the country.

Starting on Friday at noon, the White House said, Russia will be denied access to compounds in Maryland and New York that have been used for intelligence-related purposes.

I am sure that we have yet to hear the rest of the story on what they were up to. Stay tuned.

So Sessions lying about meeting with a Russian Ambassador who is widely believed to be a primary recruiter for the Russian security agency is a big nothingburger, but Bill Clinton meeting once with Loretta Lynch on the tarmac was clear evidence of an attempt to subvert American democracy.

Cruz is right. The meeting was a nothingburger.
It’s the lying under oath in his confirmation that is the issue.

Kinda like Clinton’s affair was between him and his wife.
It was the lying under oath that got Clinton impeached.

Oh yeah Ted Very Sincere.
Sincere like this?

  1. Early on, Cruz speculated that Trump’s tax returns could show a mob connection

  2. In March, Cruz called him a “sniveling coward”

  3. He also called Trump a “big, loud New York bully”

  4. Also, “a small and petty man who is intimidated by strong women”

  5. Cruz called one of Trump’s theories “nuts” and “just kooky”

  6. He also called him a “pathological liar” who “lies practically every word that comes out of his mouth”

  7. And Cruz was specific with the term “pathological”: Trump is “utterly amoral,” he said

  8. And, while he was at it, Cruz accused him of narcissism and being a “serial philanderer”

  9. In July, Cruz still hadn’t forgiven Trump for the attacks on his family
    He’s your boy Ted

The meeting was a nothingburger.

Why do you assume that? The clear record of the Trump administration so far is constant, bald, and unapologetic lying.

A senior campaign official meeting with the Russian Ambassador in the midst of a campaign in which there is widespread evidence of Russian involvement is a “nothingburger” in the same way that this is a tofu sandwich:

Yeah, nothing to see here. In fact, here are the notes from the meeting showing how all they talked about was non-campaign stuff. And verification from aides who were at the meeting–because any meeting with an ambassador in my office would involve more than just the two of us if it was, you know, part of my senatorial duties. See, nothing about the campaign!

Wait, no notes? No aides? Oh well, guess we’ll just have to take your lying word for it, Jeff.
