Discussion: Cruise Ship Headed Home After 'Truly Terrifying' Ordeal At Sea

@ Zoester

It is claustrophobic and too many people.

I’m holding those kinds of trips in reserve, for when I can no longer handle the all-day walks. My knees are still good enough for the Alps (I could kill a month there with no problem), for the interior of Iceland, for the Scottish Highlands, for Patagonia, and so on. But it can’t last forever.

It’s an ocean. There are waves and there are storms that make them bigger, especially if you travel in the winter. Better to drive, fly or rail to FL and then cruise in the Caribbean where the waters are much calmer outside of hurricane season. Glad they didn’t lose the signal for the Super Bowl broadcast. That would have been a horrible cruise.

King Neptune is not to be trifled with:

As an old mariner I can attest, respect the sea. These newer cruise
ships are top heavy and will list a bit in a squall yet they
have stabilizer arms and seasoned captains and mates.
Ships that break up are poorly maintained, do not meet
coast guard safety standards, and have missing in action
load masters(1st mates).

The idea of being with 4500 other people whom I don’t know and might not want to know would stop me in my tracks. A full airplane with maybe 300 people also stops me from flying anymore.

Dang it I had my Carnival Cruz joke all queued up, and now I see it’s a different carrier. Rubio Caribbean doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Exactly.

Kept reading this as “Cruz Ship Headed Home…”

One track mind is not a good look.

You, too?

Took the family out on a cruise that went around the Hawaiian Islands. It was a small, older ship, without the massive balancers, so the one night of stormy weather was kind of exciting. We never were in any real danger, but I could see how falling off in a storm like that could be a lethal mistake.

The best part was walking past the couple of dozen sea-sick passengers with a beer in my hand. hehehe

At 6 foot 3 the ever shrinking seats stops me from flying (is there some sort of airline contest on how cramped can they go)

Mister Neutron, the Amazon trip is something I have always wanted to do. But so many options and so many different starting points for the trip.

Highly recommended, but cheap, it ain’t: http://www.ietravel.com/central-south-america/amazon-river-cruises/amazon-river-tour-expedition-map. Do it at “high water,” rather than “low water.” Much more interesting.

Went on a Viking river cruise in So. France last summer, we loved it. 180 people on board. No Vegas on the ocean cruise for us.

Exactly, weather is nothing compared to the dank surroundings, sickening food and well, let’s just say unpleasantness of being trapped on a floating hotel.

I thought his name was spelled Cruz?
