All the tough talk about hoodlums aside, ICE has been a completely willing to chase the low hanging fruit of deportable people. People whose names and addresses are on file, whatever there historic status, are obviously in that category and, regardless of what the administration might say, have very good cause to be concerned.
Is nothing new anymore?
Well itâs not as if Dolt 45 has the capacity to sow understanding.
Letâs ask Susan Sarandon if they can all just crash at her place until itâs all sorted out.
This article, like many others, assumes that Trump, Kelly, and a whole lot of Republicans give a damn about Dreamers or undocumented or refugees when they really donât care what happens to any of them. They could have had the beginnings of a solution if they would have passed the Dream Act in 2011. Many of the characters who torpedoed that bill at that timeâMcCain, Graham, Grassley, and Cornyn to name fourâare still around, and still not giving a shit. (Psst: John McCain was for the last Dream Act before he was against it. His DACA thing is likely to generate a yawn in Congress.) From CNN about an hour ago on McCain/Coons: " A White House official rebuffed the effort, telling CNN that it takes âa lot of effortâ to write up a bill worse than the Graham-Durbin immigration bill, but somehow âthis one is worse.â The only thing that is likely to help people who deserve residence in this country is a flip of the House and Senate, and loud resistance to
ICE, Kelly, and Trump for the next 11 months.
Just look at the worldâs more notorious forced human migrations for clues as to how shady, self-righteous and convoluted the arguments and executions were behind them.
From the Trail of Tears to Maoâs Cultural Revolution to the current eviction of the Royhingya people to Bangladesh, they were all mired in hypocrisy. Those in charge are never able to get their legal and moral acts together with any semblance of the truth. Thatâs because there really isnât any decent explanation for invoking such cruelty, suffering and sins against others.
The world knows injustice when it sees it. Trump and his GOP white supremacists arenât fooling anyone. These Republicans are guilty of crimes against humanity.
Christianity has a cure for it. Itâs called eternal hell for those who will not repent those sins. But the Trumps and their GOP enablers only live in the present. Bigoted fascists must have their daily dose of hate to see them through the night. Such is the life of cowards and frauds.
All the Trump (mis-)Administration is IS âconfusionâ (and chaos).
There is no bottom.
Doesnât Occamâs Razor tell is that it is far more likely they just have no damned clue?
Itâs not like this is Operation Sow Confusion. This is just SOP at this point.
âWhite House Sowâ?
Trump and his racist side-kick, General Kelly could care less what happens with DACA. This is all up to the GOP and if the GOP wanted to do anything about it, they could very easily ignore Trump now and saddle him with something he has to sign to put him in his place and regain their congressional testicles. Itâs amazing how quickly the GOP tucks their tail in front of Trump when they really have far more power over him than he does over them.
Who is the President? Donald Trump or John Kelly? It looks like Kelly is continuing in the fashion of Al âIâm in charge hereâ Haig,
HeyâŚI have a great idea!
Letâs stabilize the markets by sowing even more confusion!
ICE has always been a thuggish operation but lately they have been acting like Trumpâs gestapo.
Sarah looks so much better than usual.
Thatâs some fantastic lipstick.
No need for the WH to âsow confusionâ, when Trumpâs involved with anything, confusion seeds itself.
Just in
Latinos = Brutal Gang of Savages
We know Trump is gonna huff and puff. He wants to cave badly, but Kelly canât quit white supremacy. Given the level of cowardice and insincerity from the WH, the best move for Dems is to dare the GOP to deport Dreamers. Theyâre already paying a price for ICEâs excesses. The steady drumbeat of shocking inhumanity by ICE is making it into the news cycles. Try that with Dreamers. This issue plays well for Dems at the district level. Get a bill out of the Senate and put the onus on Ryan to stop it. If he backs down, put the onus on Trump to veto. If this gets stalled in the Senate, take the matter to the voters.
I have a couple of observations:
I believe Trump wants to cave on DACA. I think Kelly/Miller are doing everything they can to keep the white supremacist front up as leverage and to play to the white nat base. But their position is inherently weak. Theyâre paying a price now for the way ICE is treating immigrants of color. Theyâll pay an even heavier one for DACA. Dems will get a big vote out in the SW, TX, FL, and other metro areas where DACA matters. Youâll even see it in unlikely places like rural ME, WA and other areas where immigrants, documented or not, are a part of the community. The Dems should do what they can legislatively and let Trump huff and puff and dare him to deport DACA. Ultimately, our msg to the voters is: Vote if you want to change this stuff.
I also think the wobbly market may play a role in the WH positioning. Yes it had a big day today, but Iâve rarely seen a time when a bigger than expected drop wasnât immediately followed by some money getting in to take advantage of lower prices. Sometimes companies play the market to sell short. Sometimes the market sells short for you. Thereâs every reason to think that as 1st quarter govât data on receipts vs. expenditures comes in, that the market will trend towards stagnation or a net drop for the year, because the data will confirm the fears that triggered this partial sell off (still over 1000 points down from the high): exploding debt and insufficient revenue coming in to pay for it.
As I understand it, there is a 2 year budget plan in the works that does not address DACA. The agreement is to have a vote in the Senate. This essentially means that the Dems are going to do their best to get a bill to the floor and get it out of the Senate and let the GOP/Trump make their moral choice. That, I think, is the best way for the Dems to play this politically. Put Trump in a position where someone like Gary Cohen tells him he has to cave to preserve the economy.
