In one of eight similar instances dating back to 2007, Faris said
Thomas, who is white, used pepper spray on a customer after getting into
an argument.
Eight? EIGHT? And he was still employed? Or does the above mean he only did it once, and there were eight other instances where different barbers used pepper spray? I can usually glean what the writer meant, but this one is a mystery.
I would assume that he owns the business. Of course the question then becomes why he is still in business I thought the free market was supposed to prevent this, at least that is what the Libertarians keep telling us.
Public Information Officer Trent Faris said the incident report didn’t indicate the victim’s race.
I know I’m going out on a limb here, but I’d put money on the customer being black.
Who is this barber, Sweeney Todd?
He was merely standing his ground. Black hair can be dangerous.
If only he had claimed a “deeply held religious belief” against cutting black hair.
Then, no problem at all. Move along.
Well, you see, obviously the barber was a bad guy with a gun, so if the customer, who would be a good guy with a gun, would have been packing, he could have “stood his ground” and shot the barber, and society would be better off, because it always is when a good guy with a gun shoots a bad guy with a gun. It’s math. NRA math.
The way he applies after shave should have been a red light:

I’ve buried many combs and brushes who could attest to that fact.
He probably owns the shop and in Rock Hill and the incidents would have just been fodder for a good laugh with most of his clientele.
“A York County Sheriff’s Office report says when the man asked 65-year-old Larry Thomas what he meant, the man said Thomas grabbed a pistol and held it at his side.”
Mr. Thomas was merely nullifying the need to clarify verbally. Speaking is way overrated as a means of communication esp. when you have forked over $500 to a straw seller for a nonverbal communication aid like a Glock.
Proud racists are feeling a bit emboldened in the Age of Trump.
Is this a hate crime? Me thinks so.
In Rock Ridge Hill, his behavior is part of a successful business model. Getting a reputation for cutting that kind of hair kills the business. You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land.
This dude is obviously cray and should only be allowed to cut other nuts from now on. Wait what, not mine.
Racists, sexists, and bigots of all kinds at one point felt constrained by the progress our society had made in acknowledging and embracing diversity. Our media pretty much backed up the idea that our society should, could, and would be a “big tent” that included everyone. Then Reagan came along and abolished the Fairness Doctrine, and racists and their ilk could spew their fact-challenged venom without fear of contradiction. Incrementally, the madness and ignorance spread; then politicians raised on it got elected and passed laws based on fear, ignorance, and hatred. And the least educated of our citizens no longer felt that society required them to keep their biases to themselves; whereas they once knew, deep down, that their ignorance and prejudices were not really accurate, nor acceptable nor viable in mainstream society, they came to feel that they were always right and that real freedom could include the contradiction of physically denying freedom to others. And this is where we are today and the GOP just wants MORE of this nonsense. I support Bernie Sanders, but you bet I’m voting for WHOEVER the Dems nominate because I don’t want to live in a country riding a train going backwards to its racist roots.
I guess this is one of those increasingly open discussions about race we’ve been having because we’re less constrained by the political correctness that was ruining the country.
I assume he owns it and guess a lot of his customers like the way he thinks.
Great post…bears being read here and upthread.
