Discussion for article #237231
Now the question is- will they get a jury that will actually take the video and everything else into consideration or are they going to find a jury that will take one look at it and acquit?
At least the authorities took this seriously and have done what they can to handle this. Now it is up to a jury of the defendant’s peers. If the jury acquits, it’s on those people themselves.
Given that it’s South Carolina, the capital of American treason, the likelihood of conviction is probably up there with the likelihood of the sun rising in the west tomorrow. Wish it was otherwise, but the South will always be The South.
Somewhere in an undisclosed closet in his campaign HQ, Lindsey is working up some faux outrage over the indictment and we’ll hear from him soon decrying . . . well, you fill in the rest.
Just as when Cops always walked from things like this prevailing sentiment is what drives justice. It’s now not cool for a Cop to do this and lying about it with video all over the place is no longer possible.
Outrage now rules the day. Good. The “code of blue” has taken a much needed hit and we are all going to be better off for it.
South Carolina seems to be the only state where doing this shit will get a cop indicted. Well, also Maryland, now.
Certainly haven’t seen anything like this in, say, New York or Cleveland, now have we?
Don’t get me wrong. I’m as confused by it as you are, but this is like the third time a cop has been indicted for shooting a black man down there in the last several months.
It could be that the powers that be are willing to prosecute to keep things under control, realizing that failing to prosecute could motivate people to vote.
Wow, yes, interesting. More than three now, actually; found this from December:
As a New Yorker, I’m still grieving over Eric Garner and shocked that his family won’t see justice done (though it was Staten Island, our own little red state and home to a huge number of cops). I’d like to believe the realization that we suffer in comparison with South Carolina will shame us into decency next time – though I’d love to believe there won’t be a “next time”…
This is good for American justice. The guy would be smart to plea to manslaughter if that is a lesser included offense.
The Patrick Lynch union election landslide isn’t exactly giving me a lot of confidence that will happen up there anytime soon.
