Discussion: Coons Had 'Constructive' Chat With Flake Friday Before Vote On Kavanaugh

I guess I question just how constructive that chat actually was. Although it was worth a try.

Well that chat didn’t matter

Yeah. “Look, he’s a conservative” does not, according to my sometimes faulty decoder ring, mean “He’s totally gonna Thumbsdowner McCainerson the vote.”

If Flake will vote to confirm Kavanaugh, what was all his angst about? He wanted a week’s delay and an FBI investigation. What he got was a delay and a mockery of an investigation. So now that he’s read the report on the sham of an investigation, he’s at peace voting for Kavanaugh because he’s a “conservative”? I don’t understand. Thanks for trying, Sen Coons.

It wasn’t really even a full weeks’ delay.

I would prefer to have a conservative woman on the court rather than another conservative man even if they might vote the same. Although I would likely not agree w/ her most of the time, I think it would be good to have the perspective of a conservative woman…maybe there would be nuances or concerns they would bring to the table that nobody else is articulating. They are generally relegated to supporting conservative men & parroting their views on Fox or shilling for special interest groups. Supporting players rather than leads.

I am well aware that my preferences do not matter but I just wanted to raise this.

Murkowski is an example, and I know she is a moderate, but I just think there are some voices missing. And I think it ends up creating more division, and also causes liberal women to be not heard by a chunk of the population.

Angst is his brand.

I think you have to read his memoir - think it’s “Nonsense Jibberings of a Flaky Conservative” - to find the answer to that.

Or not, if you have a life and don’t feel like wasting it.

“Sen. Flake is a conservative. He wants a conservative Supreme Court.”

The GOP could pick from dozens of “conservative” nominees.

Who are not alcoholic rapists who lie under oath.

But they’ve doubled down on this one.

And for one reason only: To stick it to “them”.

Someday, we’ll be led by those who love their country more than they hate other people.

Look, Sen. Flake is a conservative. He wants a conservative Supreme Court.

Look… here’s the flaw in the “he’s a conservative” argument our good Democrat Senator has swallowed…

There’s a difference between being a “conservative” and a “Republican-party-the-fuck-over-ANYONE-else-including-the-good-of-the country” extremist… the conservative wants a conservative judge. Kavanaugh has extensively and conclusively demonstrated that he is extremely partisan, that he has significant anger control issues, and that his is flat out willing to lie to the Senate under oath.

This is not a conservative judge.

Flake took Coons for a ride and used the Democratic senator to boost his “reasonable Republican” credentials in the eyes of the DC media.

This will all make a particularly putrid chapter in Flake’s inevitable book about how important “honor and integrity” and some such is to him.

I would be fine if Flake wants a conservative SCOTUS, and frankly nobody would expect otherwise. It’s that you just can’t support this particular nominee AND want us to believe you are a principled conservative with honor and integrity.

That’s an insult to conservatism.

Yeah, that went well. Actually, I think it did go well because the Kumbayacrat wing of the Democratic Party finally learned that Flake is full of shit. Coons finally told him to put up or shut up.

Dems have to learn that the GOP declared war on our base years ago. We can’t compromise with the GOP where it impacts existential issues like voting rights, abortion rights, climate change and health care. We must always expect and assume GOP bad faith on such matters unless proven otherwise.

Coons needs to stop covering for his guy Flake.

I would like to know what was constructive about this chat?

I don’t think Flake would have asked for that investigation if he had not been filmed in the elevator. I think it was his way of wanting to seem like a “good guy” while he really does not care about how this impacts women and girls.

I think with some of the moderates, there is a conceited notion of acting like a “statesman” or “reaching across the aisle” or “rising above the partisan fray”…etc…and they give flourishing speeches, or present themselves as mavericks and it is all shallow bullshit and about their egos. Style w/ no substance.

I have zero interest in hearing one more plea for civility or whatever it is they plea for. If they want things to change or get better, they can use their power and withhold votes to get it done. One Senator can do a lot. Few of them have. Heitkamp and Murkowski are risking things w/ their votes.

Flake is a bullshit artist.
This day just feels very dark to me.

This is a part of his presidential campaign. The angst is explained by realization of an impossible task he will be facing: getting votes of some decent people without losing misogynists and racists in his base.

The only constructive chat Flake deserves is a productive kick in the balls.
