I always assumed that most staffers would show deference to the office itself and say āMr. Presidentā when addressing him. That seems appropriate in most circumstances. Iām wondering if this is really just a roundabout way of complaining about the media referring to him as āDonald Trumpā and not āPresident Trumpā or āthe Presidentā.

Kellyanne, Kellyanne ā I may call you that may I? ā in a democracy where every citizen is legally a peer, deference is due the office, not the person. The person may earn it or, in the case of your ābossā, may not but the two ideas are separate regardless which is why a POTUS who is acting outside the bounds of his office may properly be chastised, treated with some lack of deference and humility if you will.
Possibly you were thinking of some other form of government where the person and office are merged, an autocracy perhaps?
