Not sure if the rats are scurrying to, or from, the Oval Trailer? Really hard to tell these days…
Brunell resigned to make way for Kris Kobach taking the position.
There is a bullet dodged, though I’m not sure any pick out of this fright-show is going to be anything like acceptable.
I agree, this is one of those picks that has huge ramifications for every government program that relies on population data. Which is all the government programs.
Even after close investigation found not to be a wife beater so deemed unsuitable.
“I’m sorry to announce that I am withdrawing my name from consideration. Upon further consultation with God and my family, I realized I can do much more damage to American democracy from outside the system than I ever could from within.”
“Brunell has been a champion of Republican redistricting efforts, and his critics say he lacked the experience for the position.”
“In my own defense,” Brunell claimed, “three of the last two census directors were innumerate, too.”
Only the best people.
They’ll find another hack.
We return to the dark, smoke-filled boardroom of the Overlords of ALEC where a discussion of the recent setback regarding the gerrymandering of the US Census is under way. “Curses, foiled agained…”
You should never hire a man to work in the Census Bureau who cannot count to twenty-one without taking his pants off.
What would be real news is if a Trump pick was non-controversial or a person who was knowledgeable and competent in the field and knew what the hell they were doing.
Oh my, this is indeed good news! One less idiot out on the prowl to destroy our federal agencies, that our forefathers before us, built with their bare hands!
Is it possible to convert them into pigs, instead?
Sadly, there is no shortage of idiots.
Brunell has been a champion of Republican redistricting efforts,
Champion Cheater.
This guy would’ve been a disaster. Yes, it can get worse, but at least 1 nut got stopped from taking an important position. I do wonder if the GOP got some advance notice on how SCOTUS is going to rule on the gerrymandering cases in WI, NC and TX. The PA Supreme Court decision threw a ton of shade at SCOTUS, almost laughing at them for struggling to recognize the paramount importance of voter rights. The PA decision often boasts how the Commonwealth constitution presents no such dilemma or conflict (and predates the US Constitution - which is another way of saying FU to SCOTUS).
In a sense, once Alito conceded that the PA Supreme Court had proper authority to rule on the drawing of congressional districts, I wonder if SCOTUS is going to simply uphold the prior decisions, knowing that state courts and ballot measures have more legal weight than any ruling from SCOTUS on these matters.
