Discussion: ‘Contagion’: After Midterms, GOP Steps Up National Effort To Limit Voting Rights

How these matters are handled could shape the way the critical 2020 election plays out. That cycle will determine not only whether Donald Trump serves another four years but how much control each party has of state legislatures before the once-a-decade redistricting process.

An excellent article, Ms. Kirkland. Thanks.

Republicans are not even pretending to play fair any more. The party lost its integrity long ago but now it is even losing its dignity. The GOP has decided to use every lever of power to lock in a degree of influence that does not match its popular support (minority rule), and the party no longer even cares how its actions appear. How far are we from Republicans attacking the concept of ‘One person one vote’?

Proof positive they are all “running” scared.

If they weren’t on the edge of losing everything, they wouldn’t be nearly so desperate.

As long as its the Corporate Person, they’re fine with one person, one vote.

"it’s that it’s a changing of the norms towards using maximal political power even in the face of a political rejection.”

The Trump Effect.

We can blame some of it on the Tea Mob Madness of 2009, when the bigots and bullies took over so many statehouses, but when historians look back on this era, they will acknowledge that Trump’s influence was quite similar to a viral contagion, and its victims ripe for infection.

Those Tea-infected people were already on the cliff’s-edge, Trump just dragged them over it, lock stock and barrel of Russian oil.

Maybe we should start referring to Trump Republicans as "Scorched Earthers?

GOP Steps Up National Effort To Limit Voting Rights

This is endgame for the GOP. The only thing left for them is the grave.

GOP has a “national effort” to limit voting. Still waiting for a national response from Democrats.

Yes, it is truly amazing how many people want it both ways, heads I win tails you lose! Then I thought, staying in the football theme, the owners introducing the national anthem into Sunday’s game-day cultural obsession. Let the games begin! But things get complicated; this one player decides to exercise his constitutional rights and go down on one knee! The audacity! So he gets kicked out of football - which unfortunately for the owners - is his livelihood. DO’H! So in the future, each owner will have to step up to the bar and contribute to this player’s ‘pain and suffering’. It will cost them dearly - and already has. Nice to see there’s a price to pay for bad ideas. Republicans call it …, something about ‘responsibility’. I hope we get the same results here in NC.

You must have missed this… it seems to have come in under the radar for anyone predisposed to disapprove of “Democrats”.

We won’t have a democracy until there is an end to the electoral college, national ballot standards, restoration of the voting rights act including a right to vote, public campaign financing, and an end of the institutionalized 2-party monopoly.

And an end to the Senate, too.

No democracy, no justice.
