Discussion: Conservatives Go From Zero To Impeachment In Record Time On Bergdahl

When a beaver sees a stream in a forest, he always thinks it would make a fantastic lake, and he builds a dam.

When Republicans see a PBO success, and they always think it would make an awesome, self-immolating criminal investigation, and proceed to make complete conflagrations of themselves in public.

Same.

Obama “may very well have committed a federal crime by giving material assistance to a terrorist organization.”

Really? Which terrorist organization? Check your work before you answer.

I wish they would just do it, already. But the truth is, the GOP knows they have no case for impeachment. They just use the threat to gin up their base. The irresponsibility of this is beyond belief.

That was exactly what I was thinking…benghazi…bergdahl…no one will notice…

Republicans are going to keep ramping up their paranoid delusions about Bergdahl, courts martial, Obama, impeachment, and how many times they can invoke Godwin’s Law over this issue until the American public reacts by handing the House and the Senate to Democrats in November.

Even Frank Luntz told the GOP to stop trying to use the Bergdahl release for political purposes, but the conservatives ignored him.
Now they’re trashing Sgt, Bergdahl absent any proof that he’s done anything wrong, trashing Bergdahl’s father because he grew a beard, trashing President Obama because he succeeded in getting the release of the only American POW in captivity from Afghanistan or Iraq, and trashing anyone who doesn’t toe their far-right-wing party line.

This will not end well for conservatives.
I hope they keep making fools of themselves over this.
It will make winning in November much, much easier.

They seem convinced that Obama doing anything uppity they don’t like is grounds for impeachment.

Bunch of filthy old KKK remnants, sounds like to me.

NONE!!

That is why the screechers are so outraged!!

According to what I’ve read, the POTUS notified congress in the fall of 2010 about a possible POW swap.

I guess 1245 days notice, isn’t 30…so let their screeching begin…

Impeach over a “High Misdemeanor”, like jaywalking?

Impeachment is always about flexing political muscle and never about any actual crimes. so i can believe it.

We had a president who traded arms for hostages, sold arms to fund an illegal war, and was mentally incompetent his last few years in office – no impeachment.

We had a president who lied us into a war and ignored many critical laws on privacy and hiring under civil service – no impeachment.

But we did have a president impeached for a BJ, so i can believe we could impeach the president who killed Osama bin Laden over some details related to rescuing a POW.

Maybe they meant it could be construed as aiding the political fortunes of people like Grover Norquist who has a stated goal of strangling or drowning the Federal government.

I do hope you’re right.

I’ve gleefully told these GOP stupid-fucks that they finally shut down McCarthy when he went after the Army.

This will go the same way for them, except we’re going to jerk a knot in their arrogant party’s tail and throw them the fuck out of power for good. I expect without significant reach in the house or senate, and no chance at ever getting another barely-took-off-his-white-sheet Republican into the White House, they will soon suffocate and die, since their party has nothing to offer to Americans.

I’ll be glad to piss on the GOP’s grave.

Andrea Mitchell was really trying to sell the GOP talking points about this situation. I was ashamed to think that any American (let alone a “news reporter”) would hurl accusations at the parents, the soldier, and anyone who is willing to wait for the results of an investigation. Her MSNBC show today was on par with Fox.

Actually, it’s not at all unlike the Tenure of Office Act that the Radical Republicans used to set up Andrew Johnson for impeachment. They passed a law, over Johnson’s veto, making it illegal for the president to fire any official appointed with the Advice and Consent of the Senate without the consent of the Senate. The law in question was, of course, unconstitutional but that was quite irrelevant. The point was they hated Johnson and knew he and Edwin Stanton would come to blows eventually. And, frankly, between the exigencies and passions of the Civil War, the lack of any real opposition in Congress, and the aftershocks of Lincoln’s assassination, the boundaries and norms of the system were under a lot of stress.

When Johnson relieved Stanton of his duties and then nominated a successor (U.S. Grant) without the Senate having affirmed Stanton’s removal, they impeached him for the “high crime or misdemeanor” of having violated the Tenure of Office Act. And, as anyone who’s read “Profiles in Courage” knows, they came within one vote of convicting him.

Reagan gave Iran 508 anti-tank missiles in exchange for Iran telling Hezbollah to let loose a single kidnapped missionary. But that’s different from a POW exchange. Or something.
